Practical advice and inspiration to help you prepare for your holiday
The obvious starting point for any summer family holidays has to be Europe - easy to reach, packed with perfect adventures and obviously perfect in our summer. From classic beachfront breaks in the Mediterranean to more leftfield options such as the beautiful archipelagos along Sweden's coast and the Alps (yes, in summer), we can suggest options for the whole family.
Further afield, North America is classic family summer holiday territory, with family road trips through the Canadian Rockies, or in California or the national parks of the American West, the order of the day.
Know where to go (we do) in Asia and it can also work for a luxury summer family holiday. In fact, Indonesia and Borneo are at their best in our summer, and the latter is home to that most child-friendly of beasties, the orangutan. Similarly, parts of Sri Lanka work well in summer for a cool combo of accessible culture and beach action.
In to Africa, Tanzania and Kenya are perfect for family-friendly summer holiday safari and coast combos (known in the trade as 'bush and beach' trips) and the malaria-free game reserves in South Africa are also perfect for families in summer because it's the dry season so animals congregate around the fewer waterholes and are consequently easy to spot.
If you're planning a luxury family summer holiday with younger children in tow, then remember that much-loved children's party people Sharky & George, who we work with, put together a box of tricks filled with bits and bobs to keep the children entertained throughout the trip.
