Virgin Islands (British) Holidays

The British Virgin Islands (or the BVI's as they are more affectionately known) are comprised of over 40 islands and islets, with miles and miles of white sandy beaches and coral reefs to match... essentially it's the real deal. Naturally British Virgin Islands holidays are much more fun than those in their American counterparts, and the islands are famous for their perfect sailing waters, remote beaches and great snorkelling and dive spots. There are also now some serious hotels, which the Original Travel team have had the great fortune to stay in. The main action is on the islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke (no relation to Dick), and numerous smaller outcrops such as Richard Branson's Necker.

What can you find in the British Virgin Islands that you won't find anywhere else?

The seas around the islands are remarkably calm, and therefore British Virgin Islands holidays are ideal for sailors. We can arrange yacht charters around this aquatic paradise - the ideal island hopping archipelago. Only 16 out of the 40 or so islands are inhabited, with Tortola being home to three quarters of the entire population. This can only be a good thing and means visitors can explore the small coves and cays in peace, and we have chosen a few of our favourite hotels to ensure the most exclusive and private escape.

Necker Island is the ultimate exclusive retreat, located 30 minutes north of Tortola. Owned by Richard Branson, it has been lovingly rebuilt as a private hideaway after the dreadful hurricane of 2017, with stunning villas and incomparable facilities. Usually rented out in its entirety (although some rooms can be booked individually during certain 'celebration weeks'), guests are made to feel completely at home. Food is eaten where and when is desired, and there are no noisy neighbours (except, perhaps, for the 200 flamingos that inhabit the island).

As well as being the largest of the BVI's, Peter Island is also privately owned. Spread over 1800 acres of mountainous landscape, there are five beaches and 20 coves, and plenty to explore. Some of the coves can be privately booked, so when we say private, we really do mean it.

The third hotel in our BVI repertoire is every bit as luxurious, and although not privately owned, it is resolutely private. Rosewood Little Dix Bay is just 8 miles long as well as being a National Park, and the white sand beaches and gin clear waters are perfect for good swimming, snorkelling and diving - as we would expect from any of the BVIs. It is also a great choice for families, and they really have thought of everything to make sure children are catered for too.

BVI holidays are a fantastic choice for couples and families alike, and the calm waters, sunshine and sandy beaches ensure everyone is well looked after - be that nipping around the coves on a boat, diving amongst the coral reefs, or simply relaxing on the beach with a book in one hand and cocktail in the other.
