Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Wining, Dining & Unwinding A Big Short Break in Bordeaux
France – Bordeaux
Start with a private walking tour of the city, where you can discover its rich history and vibrant culture while mentally mapping all the cafes and restaurants you’d like to return to throughout your stay.
Then, shake things up with a day trip out to Saint-Emilion, a vineyard-flanked village full of old-worn charm. Stroll along its cobbled streets with a private guide, before settling down for an afternoon of wine tastings – we trust you’ll rise to the challenge.
When you’re not busy exploring, there’ll also be plenty of time to relax in your hotel, uncover the area at your own pace (this is the land of the flaneur, after all) and stew in the scenic spectacle of these UNESCO-listed gems.

100% customisable for you
The day of your Big Short Break in Bordeaux has arrived. Head to the airport, whizz through security and settle into the lounge for some complimentary nibbles ahead of departure. Flights to the city take a speedy one hour and 40 minutes, just long enough for a refresher on your conversational French.
Once you’ve landed, cleared customs and collected your luggage, you’ll be privately transferred to your centrally located hotel, where you’ll be staying for the next three nights.
Following a break to freshen up and unpack, head out this afternoon to start acquainting yourself with Bordeaux’s sun-soaked streets and pretty public gardens.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite, contact your Concierge for a hitlist of the best restaurants in the city – all of which are bound to have a wine list longer than your arm. Bring on the Bordeaux.
After indulging in a leisurely morning and a bountiful breakfast (think caramelised crusts, salt-speckled butters and vibrant fruit juices), venture out to discover the history and culture of this UNESCO-listed wine capital.
Start at the majestic Place de la Bourse (one of Bordeaux’s most iconic squares) and its Miroir d’eau - or Water Mirror – before strolling through the charming streets of the Saint-Pierre district, where the city’s historic past truly comes to life. You’ll see La Cite du Vin, a symbol of the region’s wine heritage, as well as the beautiful Bordeaux Cathedral, a jewel of Gothic architecture.
End your exploration along the banks of the Garrone River, where you can appreciate the urban landscape while your mind drifts to thoughts of a luxurious lunch and (naturally) some winning wine pairings.
Another day, another UNESCO World Heritage site. Today, you’re off to the village of Saint-Emilion, one of the most beautiful destinations in all of France – high praise, indeed. Full of Medieval streets, stone houses, cobbled lanes and a delightful 12th-century monastic church, it’s worth a visit for its scenic charm alone.
Of course, there’s also the wines. Saint-Emilion is surrounded by vibrant vineyards. So, after a private tour of the town, head out to wander through the vines, discovering several chateaux and tasting a selection of expertly crafted vins in the process. Now’s your chance to learn the ins and outs of French wine production and how it’s earned the country such a prestigious pedigree.
Blissfully boozed, end your last full day in Bordeaux with a lounge in your hotel, followed by another delectable dinner.
Sadly, today is your last day in Bordeaux, but before you head home, there’s still time to enjoy some quintessentially French R&R. So, head to a nearby cafe, perch on a sun-soaked chair and enjoy a selection of sugar-dusted pastries.
This afternoon, you’ll be privately transferred to the airport for your one-hour-and-40-minute flight home, arriving back in the UK by the early evening (most likely with a few bottles of red in your luggage).
