Starting from between £2,520 to £3,480 per person for 9 days depending on the time of year, type of accomodation and activities

Itinerary Highlights

  • Rest, rejuvenate and reconnect with your special someone in the tropical landscapes of Martinique
  • Retreat to a collection of beautiful hand-picked homes on the Caribbean and Atlantic coasts
  • Enjoy a private sailing trip around the islands and sand banks of the bay of François
For a romantic getaway combining culture, coast and the finesse of know-how luxury, the French West Indies are about as good as it gets. Among them, Martinique casts a particularly fine figure with its isolated coves, luxuriant nature and captivating Creole culture.

Your journey begins in the cultural and economic centre of the island: Fort-de-France. Stroll through bustling streets, climb up to Fort Saint-Louis and immerse yourself in the world of Creole culture. Feast on grilled sardines and smoked chicken, haggle for fresh guavas and mangoes and enjoy live music as you sip on a Ti’ Punch (rum cocktail). The second chapter of this journey is all about savouring the sweet feeling of island life and worshipping the sun in the charming coastal town of La Trinité. You’re right on the edge of the stunning Caravelle nature reserve too, which is full of tropical rainforest, white and black sand beaches, luscious peaks and turquoise ocean. Here, you’ll also head out on a private sailing trip to some of the most beautiful islets, sandbanks and coral reefs south of La Trinité. And when you’re not on the water, you’ll be cruising round the island in a comfortable hire car, which makes free discovery entirely possible. Drive to remote coves, charming rural villages, historic rum distilleries, traditional markets and mountain viewpoints. Let the adventure begin…

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

The day has finally come for your romantic adventure to the Caribbean to begin. Head to the airport, whizz through security and settle into the premium lounge to enjoy a glass of bubbly and kickstart the holiday feel. Flight time to Fort-de-France, Martinique is around 12 hours, including a brief layover in Paris, so kick back, relax and enjoy some inflight entertainment. On arrival, collect your rental car and head into the city. Hang up your hat for three nights in a beautiful guesthouse surrounded by tropical gardens and spend the rest of today settling into your new environment with a delicious meal and a good night’s sleep.

Welcome to Fort-de-France, a lively cosmopolitan hub where the delightful hustle and bustle of the streets around the plaza counter the tranquility of the rest of the island. Today is yours to spend discovering the cultural and historical charms of the city at your own pace. The 17th-century Fort Saint-Louis experienced many attacks from British and Dutch invaders, yet is still used as a working naval base today. The Balata Gardens are based outside the city, weaving in and out of the terraces and valleys that occupy much of the middle of the island. Tall palm trees, sweet-scented flowers and a spectacular array of tropical plants cover its four acres and make a perfect setting for a hand-in-hand stroll. You could also head out to one of the rum distilleries around the city for a premium tasting session and property tour. And finally, for those in need of some coastal rejuvenation, why not simply laze on the local beach bordered by tropical palms and warm, clear waters?

Martinique has a long history of Creole culture, and we recommend taking today to fully immerse yourself in it, starting with a visit to the city’s large spice market. Hosting countless stands offering Creole spices, rum, fruits and vegetables, the bright colours and constant cacophony of merchants echo the lively atmosphere of yesteryear. Allow yourself to indulge in a selection of West Indian dishes from the food stands to get a real taste of traditional Creole and Caribbean cuisines. Our team could also arrange for you to take a guided walking tour with a clued-up local guide.

Hop back into your hire car today and head across the island to the coastal town of La Trinité, a 30-minute drive away. Your home for the next four nights here is a beautiful hotel located near the entrance of the Caravelle nature reserve. The rest of the day is then yours to spend soaking in this exceptional coastal setting. Enjoy the sounds and smells of nature while basking under the sun between mangrove forests, bays and beaches. Tartane beach is a particularly impressive spot thanks to its paradisiacal views and serene atmosphere.

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, head out in your hire car and explore the wealth of nature that surrounds La Trinité. There are rural and agricultural landscapes, as well as beautiful beaches that sweep around the peninsula, such as Raisiniers or Cosmy. Finally, the Presqu'île de la Caravelle is ideal for hiking along coastal trails and through the ruins of Château Dubuc. After a busy day of exploring, head to a local Caribbean restaurant for some classic culinary delights.

The next two days are yours to spend enjoying island life. At some point, you’ll have the opportunity to head out on a sailing trip to explore the charming succession of islets and white sandbanks that lay south of La Trinité. The Baignoire de Joséphine is famous for its wide strip of fine sand and crystal clear waters; perfect for sunbathing and sipping a refreshing cocktail. Continue on to Vauclin, beyond the coral reef, to visit the mangroves of ‘Trou Cochon’, set in a hidden bay where stunning trees and a wild white sand beach entertain the final part of your trip.

Sadly, the day has come to say goodbye to this wonderful slice of paradise as you head back to Fort-de-France and head to the airport. Flight time back to the UK is around 13 hours with a short layover in France, so you’ll spend tonight on board and touchdown on home turf tomorrow.
