Straddling the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, the West Indian islands are ever enticing. On each of them, you’ll find palm-fringed beaches, vibrant green forest and mist-shrouded mountains. But each island has its own story, and on this trip, you’ll experience two slices of paradise in just nine days.

Your adventure begins in Martinique, where you’ll weave between peaceful fishing villages and sugar cane fields, enjoy a spot of diving and experience local traditions. While you’re here, you’ll have a hire car so you can explore the island at your own pace, travelling between coves to discover some of the region’s most beautiful beaches. After four nights, take a short flight to Saint Lucia. To the north, the island’s capital hums with vibrant markets in the day and lights up with festivities at night. To the south, UNESCO World Heritage-listed mountains entice with their stunning natural landscapes. Spend three nights here swimming, snorkelling, diving and relaxing, not forgetting taking a guided hike on Gros Piton for dreamy views across the Caribbean.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your journey to Martinique begins with a 13-hour flight to Fort-de-France via Paris. Before boarding, make sure to take advantage of your complimentary lounge access, as well as fast-track security and check-in.

When you arrive in Martinique, pick up your hire car and drive a speedy 45 minutes south to Sainte-Anne, arriving at your home away from home for the next four nights: a traditional Creole guesthouse with views of the Caribbean Sea. To unwind after your journey, take an evening dip in the pool, or enjoy a drink outside before dinner.

To kick off your first full day in the Caribbean, we’ll arrange a diving trip so you can discover the island’s vibrant underwater world. From Anse Ravine to Anses-d'Arlet and the drop-offs of Pointe Burgos to the Rocher du Diamant, there’s no shortage of spots to explore. This area offers ideal conditions: clear waters sheltered from the winds. Alongside your qualified instructor, keep your eyes peeled for butterfly fish, parrot fish, trumpet fish, box fish, squid and turtles.

Sainte-Anne is the southernmost point of Martinique, and you have two more days to discover your stunning surroundings by crisscrossing the coast at your leisure from one cove to another. Don’t miss places like Les Salines Beach, one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful – think white sand, coconut trees and turquoise water. If you like, we can also arrange for you to get to know the local culture with an introduction to Bele folk music and basketry.

Today, you’ll head back to Fort-de-France airport, return your hire car and take a short flight to Saint Lucia. When you land, we’ll meet you at the airport to transfer you to your accommodation for the next three nights, nestled in the hollow of Anse Cochon.

Your time here will be nothing short of idyllic: relax, swim, eat, and reconnect with nature, all while staying in a completely private cliffside cottage. This evening, tuck into some impressive seafood cooked by the on-site chef, or enjoy a simple salad and fresh grilled fish on the sand.

Gear up for some exceptional views because today, you’ll take a private guided hike on Gros Piton. Standing at 2,618ft, this volcanic mountain dominates the coast in the southwest of the island. As you climb through untamed nature, discover landscapes that are inaccessible by car, beginning at Fond Gens Libre and reaping the rewards when you reach the summit. Descend via a marked path and finish off the adventure with a well-deserved swim at the foot of a waterfall.

It’s your last full day in the Caribbean, and what better way to spend it than enjoying a wine tasting in your hotel’s very own cellar? Complete with over 500 wines from all over the world, this is one of the Caribbean’s most important wine cellars, even showcasing a selection of rums from Saint Lucia in the adjoining bar. Located on the side of a cliff, it offers breathtaking views across the Caribbean Sea.

It’s time to wave goodbye to this Caribbean paradise and head home. We’ll privately transfer you to the airport today, where you’ll board your return flight to the UK via Paris, arriving home the following day.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

LOCAL TRADITIONS: A DAY OF BELE AND BASKETRY

An artistic practice combining music, song, dance and storytelling, Bele is a legacy left by the Martinicans who lived in the northern countryside. Spend a day learning how to make the drums essential to Bele, before moving on to a different local practice: basketry. You’ll then head to Morne des Esses to soak up local ancestral knowledge, learning to braid the colourful dried aroman and cachibou fibres to make your own basket.

With a few more days…

If you have a little more time to spare, continue your journey on one of the region’s many other islands. Here are our top suggestions:

ANTIGUA

This island boasts some of the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches. Here, palm trees shade stretches of soft sand, inviting you to nap to the gentle sound of lapping waves. Alternatively, if you’re into diving, head to the southern reefs. Throughout the island, wooden huts play music that recall the region’s Creole origins.

BARBADOS

Barbados is part of the English-speaking southern Caribbean, and it’s both rich in culture and teeming with heavenly landscapes. The island is divided into twelve parishes, and for a taste of the best of island life, we recommend Saint James, Saint Peter and Saint Lucy.
