  • Embark on two safaris a day in the Laikipia Plateau
  • Enjoy a private tour of the UNESCO-listed Lamu Old Town
  • Relax on the beach overlooking the Indian Ocean
This 11-day trip covers the city, the savannah and the beach, taking you to some of Kenya’s most exclusive destinations. Meet cute elephant calves, embark on game drives and unwind on powdery sands.

Your journey begins in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, where you’ll have one full day to explore with a private guide. Then, head to the Laikipia Plateau, one of Kenya’s lesser-known safari spots, home to lush green hills and an array of wonderful wildlife. Keen to make the most of your time? Fear not, with two safaris every day, you’ll have ample time to observe magnificent animals and admire swoon-worthy landscapes.

Tearing yourself away from the savannah isn’t easy, which is why the final portion of your trip will be spent somewhere just as magical: the Lamu archipelago. When you’re not lazing on the beach or exploring by boat, enjoy a private tour of the Old Town to discover its rich Swahili culture and history.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your Kenyan adventure begins today. Head to the airport, fast-track through security and board your nine-hour flight to Nairobi. Once you touchdown, take a private transfer to your central hotel, where you’ll spend the next two nights.

This evening, make the most of your hotel’s facilities and unwind before the excitement starts tomorrow.

Rise and shine, today you’re off on a private tour of Nairobi’s must-see sites. First stop: the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an elephant orphanage founded by Dame Daphne Sheldrick, widow of famed national park warden David Sheldrick. Together, they combated ivory poaching in Tsavo, rescuing vulnerable elephants, rhinos and antelopes. Meet the orphaned elephant calves cared for by the centre until they’re ready to rejoin the wild herds of Tsavo.

After your wildlife fix, head to the house-museum of Karen Blixen, home of the pioneering author whose autobiographical novel My African Farm was adapted into the romantic drama Out of Africa.

Next, visit the Kazuri Beads Factory, which employs nearly 300 Kenyan women to handcraft clay beads that are sold across Europe.

After your jam-packed day exploring the Kenyan capital, return to your hotel to relax before dinner.

This morning, take a short hour-long flight to Laikipia. During your journey, admire the wild landscapes that lie in the shadows of the Aberdare Range and Mount Kenya. On arrival, you’ll be greeted by the diverse Laikipia Plateau, a mix of cedar forests, acacia savannahs, unfurling plains and rolling grasslands.

Check into your comfortable hotel and admire the lush green landscape from the veranda. Cool off in the pool before enjoying a meal served in the dining room. For a truly magical experience, you can also dine in the bush or even in a treehouse (adventurous, we know).

Laikipia has high standards when it comes to wildlife conservation, with thriving populations of elephants, rhinos, giraffes, gazelles, lions and leopards. Spend two days exploring this rugged region with two safaris per day (we know, we spoil you). The choice is yours: opt for a classic 4x4 safari, traverse the plains on horseback, by mountain bike or on foot – each method is as exhilarating as the last.

Beyond exceptional wildlife and vast landscapes, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet with the Maasai, Samburu, Turkana and Pokot ethnic groups during your stay in Laikipia.

This morning begins with a one-hour flight back to Nairobi, followed by a short flight to Lamu Island, which takes just over an hour. Keep your camera on hand as you approach the island, ready to capture some beautiful shots at low altitude.

Upon arrival, a private transfer will whisk you away to your coastal accommodation overlooking the ocean, where you’ll spend the next four nights. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool, then savour a sunset cocktail before tucking into a fresh seafood dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.

Beyond its verdant mangroves and beautiful beaches, the Lamu archipelago presents an exciting opportunity to discover the rich Swahili culture, which is rooted in a multicultural heritage of African, Arab and Indian Ocean peoples.

During your stay, take a private tour of Lamu Old Town, East Africa’s oldest Swahili settlement. Once a flourishing port, this UNESCO-listed site is now a haven of beautiful architecture. Dating back to the late 13th century, the Old Town features a blend of Swahili, Arab, Persian, Indian and European influences.

Are you a water lover? Hop aboard a dhow (traditional sailing boat) and explore the archipelago’s other islands or sandbanks for a spot of swimming. Or, for a more active afternoon, try your hand at watersports such as snorkelling and kitesurfing. For the foodies among you, your local Concierge has insider tips on where to find the best spots to sample Lamu’s cuisine.

Sadly, your Kenyan adventure has come to an end. Take a private transfer back to the airport for your short flight to Nairobi, before boarding your nine-and-a-half-hour flight back to the UK. You’ll spend the night in the air and arrive home the following morning.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

WITH A FEW MORE DAYS…

WITNESS THE WILDEBEEST MIGRATION

If you’re travelling at the right time of year and have a few extra days to spend in Kenya, a visit to the Maasai Mara Reserve is a must. Every year, millions of wildebeests trample across the Mara River, throwing themselves into the jaws of hungry crocodiles and along banks haunted by hunting lionesses, all in their attempt to reach the grassy plains of the Tanzanian Serengeti. This is one of nature’s most thrilling spectacles and is well worth the detour south.

VISIT THE SOUTHERN BEACHES

Instead of heading to Lamu Island, you can choose to end your trip on the country’s south coast, just below Mombasa. Enjoy palm-fringed stretches of sand and glistening turquoise waters. Stay in an exclusive hotel on a private beach beside the Indian Ocean for a few days of utter relaxation.
