Travel Advice & Information
History-steeped Naples has plenty of ancient sites to tick off. Visit Fort Saint Elmo, a medieval fortress sitting high on a hill, and enjoy sweeping views over Naples. Head to the island of Magaride for more spectacular panoramas at the Castel dell'Ovo (Castle of the Egg) and for gory stories, visit the New Castle and see its Pit of the Crocodile where - legend has it - prisoners were dragged off by the beast in the castle’s dungeons. Other historical hot-spots include the museum housed in the Royal Palace, the city’s old town and Spanish quarter and the impossibly long and straight Spaccanapoli street.
Nearby, there are plenty of other attractions that lure. Admire the craters, lakes and volcanic edifices in the Phlegraean Fields park and stand before the crater of the Solfatara volcano that still emits jets of steam. Afterwards, visit the neighbouring city of Pozzuoli and see its impressive amphitheater (the third largest in Italy). Island hop between Procida, Capri and Ischia and enjoy a stay along the dreamy Amalfi coast with its many enchanting cliff-topped villages. Spend some time wandering through the ancient city of Pompeii that was engulfed by the towering Vesuvius volcano and be reminded of the true power of nature as you take in the ruins of this sprawling archeological site.
Offering the perfect blend of coast and culture, a holiday to Naples and the Amalfi Coast appeals to a wide crowd. Spend your days alternating between cultural discovery and beachside relaxation as you explore the region’s charming villages and historic sites.
Stay in a charming hotel in the centre of Naples to immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant culture. Rent a car to explore the surrounding area and take a trip to the Amalfi Coast to wind down and relax after the wonderful madness of Naples. One word of warning: the single lane coastal roads can be extremely busy, so the best time to get around is early morning or late evening.
- Savour the fresh flavour of grilled fish in one of the seafood restaurants in the charming fishing port of Pozzuoli
- Stay in a boutique hotel away from the tourist bustle and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Amalfi Coast
- Indulge in an ice cream with a view of the sea and then another... just to compare flavours, you understand
- Hug the coast on a hike along the paths of the Amalfi Coast and take plenty of postcard-perfect photographs
