Begin your journey with an international flight (most likely overnight) to the UK.
Welcome to Scotland! You will be met at arrivals by you private driver who will transfer you to your central Edinburgh hotel. The drive should take approximately 30 minutes depending on traffic. On arrival to your hotel, relax and unpack at leisure. We will provide you with a detailed Dossier of places to eat and things to do in Edinburgh so you can spend the rest of the day exploring at your own pace.
This morning, depart with your guide for a walking tour of Edinburgh. First stop is the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where Outlander's Claire and Jamie visit Bonnie Prince Charlie to beg him to abandon the uprising. You can see the Prince's real portrait hanging in the Royal Dining Room of the palace. From here, wander up through the Old Town to see where Claire and Jamie reunite after 20 years. Stop in on the National Museum of Scotland to get a deeper appreciation of Scotland's history, from the Palaeolithic era to the present day.
You could also add in a visit the Jacobite Challenge to discover the real story of the Jacobites and Prince Charles (Bonnie Prince Charlie)
Depart with your driver-guide for an Outlander day tour in the areas surrounding Edinburgh. Your first stop is approximately an hour away at the town of Culross, a traditional and well-preserved town showing how settlements would have looked in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Mercat Cross is where the fictional village of Cransmuir was filmed, where Gellis lives and the garden behind the palace stands in for Claire's herb garden at Castle Leoch. From Culross, head back towards Edinburgh via the 15th century Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, which was used as Wentworth Prison, where Jamie was imprisoned in the series.
After lunch head to nearby Blackness Castle, which was used as the Fort William headquarters for Black Jack Randall, before your last stop at Hopetoun House. One of the finest examples of Scottish Grandeur the house featured in the TV series as Parisian streets, Jamie & Claire's Paris apartment and the Hawkins Estate. After your tour your driver-guide will transfer you back to your Edinburgh hotel.
Check out of your hotel and leave with your driver-guide for Doune Castle, a focal point for any Outlander fans, as it stands in for the fictional Castle Leoch in the show. The castle has also featured in Game of Thrones and Monty Python so is a must see for any film fans! After your tour of the castle, head to the nearby Drummond Castle Gardens, a beautiful formal garden which was used to represent the ornate Palace of Versailles. From here, drive into the scenic Cairngorms to rest your head in a Scandi-chic farmhouse with a farm-to-fork foodie vibe.
En route to Doune Castle, stop in at Stirling Castle, one of Scotland's grandest castles thanks to its imposing position and impressive architecture.
After a leisurely breakfast make the hour-long journey towards Inverness with your driver-guide, where you will spend the morning exploring the Culloden battlefield and the Clava Cairns. The Culloden battlefield is where the final Jacobite uprising ended in 1746. Nearby is the prehistoric site of Clava Cairns, which is where Diana Gabaldon is said to have taken inspiration for Outlander's fictitious stone circle, Craigh na Dun.
Enjoy lunch in Inverness before taking a private boat cruise on the Loch Ness, which featured in the Outlander novels during Claire & Frank's honeymoon. Ensure you stop off at Urqhuart Castle, which (back in the real world) was blown up by Government forces after the first uprising in 1692 to prevent it falling under Jacobite hands.
Your driver-guide will then transfer you back to your farmhouse in the Cairngorms.
Begin your day with a visit to the Highland Folk Museum, visit the turf roofed crofts for an insight into how Highlanders traditionally lived and see where filming scenes - such as when Dougal collects the rent - took place. From here drive just under two hours to Glencoe, this is a scenic route from the Cairngorms past Ben Nevis so sit back and enjoy the views. Glencoe features in Outlander's opening credits and is an iconic Scottish landscape. Afterwards, settle into your new hotel located near Fort William.
Today we could also arrange a visit to the poignant monument of a lone kilted highlander, a memorial to the final Jacobite rising.
Relax in your hotel today and enjoy the facilities - we can arrange some country pursuits or a day trip to the Isle of Skye if you would prefer to be more active.
Today drive to Glasgow, a two-and-a-half-hour long journey through the beautiful Trossachs National Park. Once in Glasgow check into your hotel and relax for the afternoon.
Today visit the historic George Square in Glasgow, which is where Frank proposed to Claire, and Glasgow Cathedral, which doubled as the Parisian hospital Claire volunteers in. The cathedral also boasts one of the finest post-war collections of stained-glass windows in Britain. Enjoy the city's striking Victorian architecture and world-famous art collections during your day tour. In the evening head to Ashton Lane to explore the quirky independent restaurants. We will recommend one and can prebook a table.
This morning your driver is on hand to transfer you back to Edinburgh Airport in good time for your flight home via London.
