Romance is quite literally in the air as you take your overnight flight from London to Johannesburg departing in the evening. With eleven hours in the sky, that is plenty of time for whispering sweet nothings to your beloved. Top Tip: tell the check in desk you are headed out for your honeymoon and cross your fingers for an upgrade. It rarely happens but it would be the cherry on the cake!
After touching down in Johannesburg in the early morning, hop onto your next flight to the spectacular Victoria Falls with your bags checked through. This short and sweet flight will only take an hour and a half. As you touch down in Zimbabwe, a private transfer is waiting to whisk you to the Victoria Falls Hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing at this iconic hotel. The classic five-star setting is just the spot for romance, with a deluxe room you can expect rich cotton bedding and spectacular views. Plunge into the Edwardian Pool and enjoy a gourmet dinner in the Livingstone Room.
Today you will discover the wonder of 'The Smoke That Thunders'. As the mighty Zambezi River makes its way to the Indian Ocean, it billows over a steep gorge creating the largest waterfall in the world. To hear her roar, watch the mist rise, and stand on the precipice gazing at the force of Mother Nature - you suddenly understand why this is one of the most celebrated of all natural wonders. Making memories as a married couple at Victoria Falls is a piece of cake - from white water rafting along the Zambezi to heli-flips and microlight flights, your heart is sure to be racing. Those seeking softer delights can enjoy riding, go game viewing, or relax with a champagne afternoon tea overlooking the falls.
This morning, after a delicious breakfast and one lingering glance at the falls, head back to the airport for your onward flight to Botswana. The journey from airport to camp will take around 75 minutes, offering you the chance to peek out and capture your first sight of the rich Okavango Delta. The Okavango Delta is a watery paradise for wildlife lovers. These inlets and islands are home to a huge concentration of elephants, hippos, and hidden predators. Mokoro canoes are punted slowly through the reeds, luxury tents appear in soft lit lagoons and the waterways echo with the calls of cheetahs, baboons, lions and impala. The skies bloom with brightly colored birds and local mokoro polers pass by.
Start your day deep in the wilds at the Pom Pom Camp. This stunning delta camp seamlessly blends luxury with off-the-beaten-track adventure, sitting on the borderlands of the Moremi Game Reserve and the Xudum River. Surrounded by lagoons, blooming flora and aquatic fauna, luxury tents boast elegant private verandahs, oversized beds, and hot showers. A shimmering pool is also a welcome sight in the high heat of the afternoon. Morning and evening game drives invite you to witness herds of elephants cooling in the rivers, lazy cheetahs lounging in trees, and pied kingfishers catching their supper in the narrow channels.
As evening settles, enjoy sundowners beneath the boughs of the trees before taking a romantic dinner beneath a blanket of stars.
Another day in the Delta and perhaps the perfect chance to take a mokoro trip to explore all the nooks and crannies the Okavango has to offer. A professional poler will punt you through the maze-like waterways, along secret streams and explaining the complex ecosystems. Tigerfish and bream swim beneath the narrow boat, crocodiles and hippos wallow in the shallows, and mopane forests flank the edges of this dense oasis.
Being on the borderlands of Moremi means you can walk with qualified guides in the hunt - never too close, naturally - for big cats. Watching lionesses prowl as their cub's tumble is the ultimate safari experience. At night, gather around the campfire to share stories of epic adventures on the delta, sip a cold beer, and soak up the serenity of the African sky.
This morning after a final game drive, it's time to say farewell to Pom Pom Camp and take an airstrip flight to find the secret spot of the River Khwai. Flying across the delta is a magical experience and the very best way to take in the drama of 5,600 square miles of lagoons and islands. The River Khwai sits pretty between the Chobe National Park and the Moremi Game Reserve. While the crowd's flock to the big-name attractions, this untamed little spot is left to the elements. The banks throng with lions, leopards and wild dogs and the waters are full of crocodiles in this beacon for wildlife. Sable Alley, your next port of call, welcomes you with its lavishly dressed tents and enviable location.
Tonight is a special night, and perhaps the most spectacular celebrations of your newlywed life as you have the chance to sleep beneath the stars. Deep in the private reserve the Skybeds consist of beautifully constructed three-storey wooden homes offering an open-air roof-space with a whimsical four poster bed and twinkling lanterns for sleeping in the light of the moon. Your private bed overlooks a watering hole, so you can fall asleep to the soundtrack of the wild and wake to the sight of elephants, zebras and warthogs without moving from bed.
After a majestic night at the Skybeds, return to Sable Alley for another day of intrepid game exploration and relaxing. A mokoro is always a great way to navigate those hidden wetlands and alleyways, and a local guide will be more than glad to take you gliding elegantly through the reedbeds and lily strewn lagoons. If you want to stretch your legs, then pull on your walking boots and take a guided game walk along the riverbank. For dinner, the outdoor decked dining room lit by lanterns is the ultimate place to dine in romantic style. Afterwards, one last nightcap before bed leads you to the crackling fire-pit to lend an ear to the midnight roar of a lioness on the hunt.
Wake up one last morning to the sight of impala drinking from the channel outside your window. One last game drive should inspire you to keep your eyes glued to the elephants, lions and leopards. Today you will transfer back to the airstrip for your onward flight to Maun. From Maun you can check your bags straight through to London before your two-hour flight to Johannesburg. Connect to your evening overnight homeward bound flight, which will take just over 11 hours.
Arrive back in London in the early morning.
