Honeymoon Rajasthan holidays

At Original Travel we like to walk the walk as much as talking the talk, and with one of the founders enjoying a wonderful luxury honeymoon in Rajasthan a few years ago we know this is a romantic post-wedding winner. India as a whole is a magical destination, but in our experience many couples tend to try to plan their honeymoon to somewhere neither has been before. When that's the case, and with a nod to the lovely likes of Kerala, Karnataka and the Himalayas, there's nowhere quite like Rajasthan to enjoy the best that India has to offer for first-timers.

So where to start? The majestic cities of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur should definitely appear in the itinerary - Jaipur for high energy and highly luxurious places to stay, Jodhpur for the impressive Mehrangarh Fort and beautiful blue-painted houses and finally Udaipur. Because? Well, because it's simply the most romantic city in India, and somewhere couples can enjoy boat rides or even private dinners on a platform on the lake.

If you've got time, try to visit the westerly city of Jaisalmer, sitting pretty like a gigantic sandcastle in the Thar Desert, and while it's technically not in Rajasthan, we'd also recommend working Agra in to the mix because the Taj Mahal is every bit as beautiful as dvertised, and the ultimate architectural statement of love.

Away from the cities, Rajasthan has a wide range of landscapes to explore, and lovely places to stay from which to enjoy them. There are the deserts mentioned earlier, but also areas of verdant hills and - most notably in Ranthambore National Park - wild jungle where tigers still roam. A few days safari while staying in a charming tented camp and spotting tigers (fingers crossed) is another truly memorable honeymoon experience.

As you can probably tell by now here's more than enough to do in Rajasthan to fill a fortnight's honeymoon, but if the lure of the beach is too irresistible, Rajasthan works well in combo with either Kerala in the south of India, or Oman which has some seriously superb beachfront properties.
