Cambodia - Angkor - Singapore
100% customisable for you
Transfer and six-night stay in Phum Baitang.
Already included in the itinerary - To begin with, a guide accompanies you to the site of the ancient Isvarapura located 12 miles north-east of Angkor; there you will find the Banteay Srei temple, a shrine dedicated to Shiva. This is a beautiful, well-preserved pink sandstone temple from the 10th century, adorned with a lot of art. Then you'll travel east of Angkor Thom to see the Ta Prohm temple, a 12th-century Buddhist school. Its beauty lies in the invasion of the sprawling roots of false hemp trees, and it is in the same state that it was in when the sacred area was discovered by the first archaeologists.
Included in the itinerary- Boat trip on Tonle Sap with an expert guide. As the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, it contributes to the natural regulation of the Mekong River. Your trip takes you to the village of Kampong Phluk. Houses are built on tall stilts, with water levels reaching several feet. This life on stilts, where everything depends on the river, feels like a different world. The lake provides fishermen with plenty of fish. It also feeds a diverse array of bird species, including the Spot-billed pelican, Oriental darter and Bengal florican. Tonle Sap has also been designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, an indication of its importance to the local ecosystem.
Included in the itinerary - A scooter ride through the countryside. With your helmet secured, hop on the back of the scooter and off you go! Scooters are not just for young urbanites. They are also ideal for the dirt paths of the Cambodian countryside. You'll cruise along the rice fields, go through villages and pass by the East Mebon, a 10th-century temple before stopping to visit a local craftsman. It's not a wild ride, but a very nice excursion into a world with a traditional way of life. From large shrines to small roadside shops, there's plenty to think about while watching the world go by. You'll have lunch on a local farm. In the evening, return to Tonle Sap to sail at dusk, with petits fours and sparkling wine. Activities accompanied by an expert guide.
Included in the itinerary- Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. In a car, and with an expert guide, visit two major monuments of the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire. Angkor Wat, the temple city built by Emperor Suryavarman II in the 12th century, is the largest and best preserved monument in the area. The statue is admirable. Buddhist worship continues in the shrine (which was first dedicated to Vishnu). Jayavarman VII built the Royal City of Angkor Thom in the early 13th century. The immense carved faces of the southern gate are unforgettable; the natural Bayon bas-reliefs and the central temple are astonishing.
Included in the itinerary- Culinary journey on a Vespa. Hop onto the back of a scooter to tour the night markets and sample local street food with an expert guide. The dishes made at the table and on a brazier are astonishingly well-balanced and delicious. From meat, fish and shellfish to vegetables and fruits, all regional produce is prepared in front of customers. You'll stop and have dinner at the most appetising stall.
Transfer to the airport and flight to Singapore. Transfer and three-nights' accommodation at the historical Fullerton Building. It dates back to the 1920s and, after housing the Post Office and Singapore Club for a long time, it is now a real palace. Its majestic neoclassical facade marks the mouth of the Singapore River. From the Doric columns to the vast proportions of the lobby, the living rooms, the dining rooms, you can still feel all the pomp and ceremony of the British Empire. And what's more... Your fully equipped room looks out over old Singapore. The hotel's restaurants offer modern and impeccable versions of Chinese, Italian, Japanese and Indian cuisine. Afternoon tea is a ritual that is scrupulously followed. The infinity pool seems to pour into the river. The service is discrete, effective and precise... Like a palace...
Included in the itinerary- Cosmopolitan Singapore. Around Fullerton, the Central Business District and its buildings. Driving into the city with an expert driver and guide, you will discover an unexpected and colourful diversity: Chinatown, Little India, the Malaysian district of Kampong Glam, etc. Among the iconic buildings are the Old Parliament House (1827), the Old Supreme Court Building (1939 - but the new building, Foster and Partners 2005, is worth a look), the Cricket Club (1884)…The splendid botanical gardens, created in 1859, is the only UNESCO World Heritage institution of its kind. And while walking around, admiring the orchid collection, it is clear to see why this has UNESCO classification. The Taoist Thian Hock Keng Temple, founded in 1839 by Fujian Chinese and built in their vernacular style, is still visited today.
Already included in the itinerary - In the footsteps of Thomas Stamford Raffles (1781-1826), naturalist and founder of Singapore. The expert guide will lead you to the place where the great man would have landed and visit an excellent exhibition dedicated to the Singapore River. Then tea at the Raffles Hotel which was founded by Armenian hoteliers, the Sarkies brothers, in 1887. The next stop on your historical tour of Singapore is Clarke Quay, which you'll reach by bumboat (a small boat that acts as a taxi), where the warehouses have been converted into restaurants and cafes. As a convenient way to continue your explorations, you will have half-day use of a car with a driver and guide.
