Itinerary

100% customisable for you

After a speedy two-hour flight to Munich, collect your hire car and set your Satnav for Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The hour-long drive will see you checking in for a three-night stay in the hills, sleeping in a hotel only accessible by cable car. So, park your car, hop into the cable car, settle into the restaurant and tuck into delicious cuisine made from local ingredients.

Today, prepare to explore the historical and cultural gems of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a town shaped by the ancient Roman road, Claudia Augusta. Visit the old St. Martin's Church to admire its stunning 14th and 15th-century architecture, including a depiction of St. Christopher. Next, discover the remnants of Werdenfels Castle, a sombre reminder of the witch trials that once took place in this very town. Finally, head south to the majestic Wetterstein Mountains, home to the Zugspitze, and visit Schachen Castle. Built for King Ludwig II of Bavaria between 1869 and 1872, this castle features Swiss-inspired architecture, Swiss stone pine and a touch of theatrical aesthetics.

After conquering historical sights, head back to your hotel for a soothing spa treatment that will blissfully relax you after a busy day.

Continue exploring German gems today with a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle, a beautifully designed building that inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle. Below, you’ll find Hohenschwangau Castle, which dates back to the 14th century and was redesigned in the 19th century in the troubadour style. Alternatively, spend today taking a cogwheel train or a cable car to reach the summit of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain.

Pack your bags and wave goodbye to Germany, because today you’re heading to Alpbach, a little town in western Austria. On your way, stop in Innsbruck for a thrilling funicular ride from the city centre to the Hungerburg district. Sitting 2,800 feet above sea level, this neighbourhood offers stunning mountain views, restaurants and hiking trails. Afterwards, hop back in your car and continue driving to Alpbach. Your home for the next three nights is a traditional-style chalet, complete with wooden balconies overlooking the Kitzbühel Alps and a sauna – pure alpine bliss.

Alpbach is renowned for its pure air, beautiful architecture and abundant flowers. On your first day here, buckle up your helmet and jump onto your electric bike, soaking in the mountain views as you smoothly speed over hills. We’ve even provided you with a picnic basket packed with treats to replenish your energy. After an adrenaline fix, learn about the lives of the region’s 17th-century farmers with a visit to the Alpine Farmers’ Museum. This real-life farmhouse depicts how the locals would have lived and worked hundreds of years ago.

Alpbach is blessed with abundant hiking trails, so on your second day, lace up your boots and tackle the gentle slopes that wind through the mountains. Have your cameras ready, as this slice of Austria provides views galore.

Today you’re off to Salzburg, so jump in the car and enjoy the scenic two-hour drive to the filming location for the Sound of Music. Perched in the old town is the hotel where you’ll spend the next two nights – equipped with a spa, choose to spend the remainder of today relaxing inside or head out to explore the surrounding area.

There's nothing like exploring a city with someone who knows it like the back of their hand. So today, spend three hours with a Saltzburg expert who’ll take you from the Capuchin Monastery to Hangar 7, where businessman Dietrich Mateschitz showcases his collection of planes and cars. Along the way, you'll visit Mozart's birthplace and the Trinity Church, designed by Fischer von Erlach. It’s a day rich with Austrian spirit and the perfect way to end your trip.

Sadly, the time has come to begin the journey home. Enjoy one last drive to Munich, return your hire car and board the two-hour flight back to the UK.
