A Family-Friendly Long Weekend in Berlin

Berlin

Starting from between £900 to £1,230 per person for 4 days depending on the time of year, type of accomodation and activities

Itinerary Highlights

  • Take a ride in a vintage Trabant car from the former GDR
  • Cycle through different neighbourhoods on a guided tour
  • Use your Berlin Card to get free public transport and discounts on museums and activities
Berlin, Germany’s cool capital, is perfect for a family getaway. It might be large, but it’s easy to navigate and full of friendly locals (who’ll eagerly listen to your school-level German). And it’s packed with plenty of spots that your little ones will love, including zoos, museums, swimming pools and kindercafés (cafés designed for families, where you can sip a latte-macchiato while your children have fun in the play area).

Berlin is also a gorgeously green city where cyclists rule the road. Accompanied by a guide, pedal from one urban oasis to another – Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Viktoria Park or the banks of the Landwehrkanal – while keeping your eyes peeled for the street art that adorns the capital’s different districts.

We’ll also arrange for you to journey into the past with a ride in a vintage Trabant: the iconic car of the former GDR (the socialist state of East Germany from 1949 to 1990). For the rest of your time in the city, we’ll equip you with a Berlin Card. This gives you unlimited access to public transport and entry to Museum Island along with discounts to family-friendly destinations like Tierpark Zoo.

Where You’ll Stay

Berlin has a knack for reinventing the past and infusing it with creativity, and your accommodation for the weekend is an example of exactly this. Somewhere between a hipster hangout and an apartment block, it’s perfectly suited to a family stay. You’ll find it in the Mitte district, a bustling hub full of the city’s most iconic monuments, restaurants, galleries and nightlife spots. There’s a range of apartments with characterful vintage décor, offering plenty of space for children to play or rest between outings, just like at home.
