Florence is famed for its iconic skyline, with the red roofs and dome of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore rising up between the banks of the Arno and the Tuscan mountains. During this luxury long weekend, you’ll be able to enjoy this sight in all its glory from Fiesole, a town set above Florence among the lush Tuscan countryside. Florence’s splendour owes much to the reign of the Medici family and this is especially evident in its Renaissance palaces and churches, which you’ll get to discover during a tour of the city alongside a local guide. There's also a whole array of art galleries and museums to be explored, as well as over 150 antiques dealers, and your trip includes priority access to the legendary Uffizi Gallery. Food lovers shouldn't miss out on San Lorenzo Market, where you’ll find stalls brimming with regional food offerings and local specialities. With such a wealth of things to do and see, it’s nice to know that our local Concierge will be on hand throughout your stay to point you in the right direction (or towards the best restaurant).

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your long weekend in Tuscany begins today with a flight from London to Pisa. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed at the airport and privately transferred to your hotel in Fiesole, a town set in the scenic hills above Florence. The region is blessed with commanding views of Tuscany’s capital below, dominated by the ochre dome of the cathedral. To the east, enjoy uninterrupted views of the bucolic Tuscan countryside. Settle into your luxurious hotel and spend the rest of the day relaxing and taking in your stunning surroundings. This relaxation will undoubtedly include some culinary indulgence (you’re in Italy, after all), so tuck into some Tuscan specialities, such as bistecca alla fiorentina (Florentine steak) or tagliolini with white truffle.

Today you’ll have the chance to really get under the skin of Florence and discover some hidden gems, off the well-trodden tourist track. Your tour guide is a local artist, who understandably knows the city like the back of their hand, and together you’ll head down quiet courtyards, past flowered terraces and via artists' and craftsmen's workshops. Your guide can tailor the route according to what you want to see and do, as well as throw in a few wildcard options that they think you'll enjoy. Tastes and cravings will also be sated during a guided culinary journey through the stalls of San Lorenzo Market. More than just a food market, it's a meeting place for Florentines who love delicious local produce and are skilled in the art of Italian gastronomy. It offers an extraordinary selection of regional specialities, allowing visitors to sample the best of Florentine cuisine: cheeses, meats, olive oil, schiacciata bread and cantucci biscuits, not forgetting the famous red wine produced just outside of Florence: Chianti Classico. If you’re not still stuffed from your food sampling at San Lorenzo, ask our local Concierge for recommendations on where to dine this evening.

Dive headfirst into some more Florentine culture today with priority access to the Uffizi Gallery. As one of the most famous museums in Florence (and the world), the Uffizi hosts works of art by all the Italian greats; Botticelli, Giotto, Cimabue, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Raffaello to name a few. Understandably the gallery is hugely popular, so with our ‘skip the line’ tickets you’ll be able spend less of your visit queuing and more time admiring the masterpieces. Take your time wandering through its many exhibits and learning about Italy’s artistic past, before heading back out into the city. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you please and again our local Concierge can offer some must-visit recommendations for both culture and food, to make the most of the final evening of your long weekend.

Sadly your luxury long weekend in Tuscany comes to an end today. Spend this morning however you wish; relaxing around your hotel and soaking up those iconic views of Florence below, or exploring the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Later on, you’ll be collected from your hotel and privately transferred back to Pisa Airport for your flight home.

Private tour of the Etruscan, Roman and medieval parts of Fiesole

Fiesole became something of a refuge for Florentines in the 14th century. A little north-east of Florence and nestled in the hills, the town was, and still is today, airy and peaceful. It is where Fra Angelico lived. He left many of his paintings in the Convent of San Domenico - some have remained, such as the Deposition of Christ and Virgin and Child, while others have left, such as Crucifixion with Saint Dominic, which is now at the Louvre. The remains of an Etruscan temple have been unearthed. During the first century BC, under the dictatorship of Sylla, veterans of the legions were settled in Faesulae, which was then updated with theatres and baths, which people still visit today. Accompanied by a private guide, you'll explore the different layers of the town's history.
