Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Peru - Lima - Cusco - Machu Picchu - Lake Titicaca
100% customisable for you
Private transfer and two-night stay in a private, period house, located on the waterfront of Barranco, Lima's art district. The communal areas are designed like an art gallery with the rooms upstairs. Rooms are all decorated differently, but feature the same elegant simplicity, with garden and ocean views. Breakfast is served in the kitchen of the house, around a large, communal, wooden table. The ocean and old town are close by and there are well-tended green spaces everywhere. The historic centre of Lima, otherwise known as Cercado, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers splendid examples of Spanish colonial architecture, such as Torre-Tagle Palace (18th century) and the Basilica Cathedral of Lima (17th century), home to the tomb of Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish conquistador who led the Spanish conquest of Peru.
Included in the itinerary - Half-day cooking class that focuses on preparing and tasting Peru's most typical dishes. Visit the market to see the various fish, vegetables and fruits typically used in Peruvian cuisine. Then, wander around Chinatown and find the type of ingredients used in 'chifa' dishes, the fusion of Peruvian-Chinese cuisine. Enjoy lunch in a seafood restaurant. Here, the chef introduces Peru's most typical dishes, 'ceviche' (raw fish marinated with lime), 'causa' (mashed potato dish) and 'lomo saltado' (stir-fried steak). For parents: Try a real pisco sour, the national aperitif. The rest of the day is then up to you, follow our suggestions and recommendations, especially in Barranco, a popular seaside resort at the beginning of the century, and now one of Lima's most fashionable districts. Visit the Larco Herrera collection, bringing together ceramics, textiles, and jewellery, especially from northern Peruvian communities, in a 17th-century vice-royal house.
Optional - Raise their adrenaline and heighten their senses with tandem paragliding over Miraflores and the coast.
Private transfer to the airport and flight to Cusco. Second transfer to Urubamba, in the Sacred Valley. An hour north of Cusco, this quietly charming little town is the gateway to the valley's must-see spots and endless activities, all waiting to be discovered over the next three days. Your hotel is located in the southern part of the town. The contemporary Andean architecture means this hotel enjoys beautiful natural light. The interior design features white wood furniture to create a light and stylish look. The rooms are pristine and minimalist with a laidback charm and stunning views of the surrounding scenery. The gardens are the perfect setting for relaxing during the day and gathering around the fire in the evening. The small spa, with its sauna, jacuzzi and wide selection of massages, provides valuable treatments and relaxation services after a long day exploring.
Included in the itinerary - Pisac market. There's a whole host of handicrafts, including textiles and ceramics galore. You can also visit the archaeological ruins overlooking the town. Overlooking the Urubamba River (or Vilcanota River), soak up the site's fascinating history and spectacular views of the Sacred Valley. Spend the afternoon visiting the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, which was a gigantic agricultural, administrative, social, religious and military complex of the Inca Empire.
Optional - For young riding enthusiasts and their parents, an equestrian show and dinner is the perfect experience while in Peru. Discover the Peruvian Paso horse, especially renowned for its four-stroke walk and considered as the world's best dressage horse.
Included in the itinerary - Mountain biking on the Terraces of Moray, with a guide. The first part of the route gradually climbs to reveal the snowy peaks of the Urubamba mountain range. Between trails and paths, the short valleys follow one another before reaching the impressive and mysterious concentric terraces of Moray. Discover the Inca's amazing agricultural engineering techniques with this impressive set of four perfectly circular main terraces, surrounded by a dozen secondary circles, dug into the earth and reminiscent of a Greek amphitheatre. Also explore the salt mines of Maras, and its four thousand hillside basins, some of which even predate the Inca era. Slightly farther away, the village of Ollantaytambo and its imposing citadel guards the northern entrance to the Inca Valley.
Included in the itinerary - The Inca Trail is arguably one of the most beautiful routes on Earth. A preserved wilderness between mountainous forest and the Altiplano, connected by a trail that offers breathtaking views. The Incas used it as a pilgrimage route to their sacred citadel of Machu Picchu. Explore this historic trail on a two-day trek. The trek begins with a visit to the archaeological site of Chachabamba. After about four hours, arrive at the archaeological complex of Winay Wayna located at approximately 8,700ft above sea level. The site is named after a species of small orchid that inhabits this area and means 'forever young'. After lunch, head to Intipunku (Sun Gate), to enjoy the splendour of Machu Picchu. Overnight stay in a hotel in Aguas Calientes. This modern and friendly accommodation features contemporary decor designed with recycled materials. It has comfortable and cosy rooms as well as deliciously fresh cuisine. The hotel also has a spa with four private treatment rooms, a heated swimming pool, a sauna and hydromassage showers.
Included in the itinerary - Spend your second day visiting Machu Picchu. In the early hours of the morning, drive up to the citadel by private shuttle bus to enjoy full access to the site and express pass tickets to save time. Take a guided tour of the archaeological site. The Machu Picchu stone citadel is the single most iconic site in Peru, located in the Amazon rainforest, 9,190ft above sea level and 70 miles from Cusco. Then, head down to Aguas Calientes. If you have time, the thermal baths are worth a visit.
Train from Aguas Calientes to Poroy then private transfer to Cusco. Three-night stay three blocks from Cusco's main square, Plaza de Armas, in the old town. The hotel's interiors focus on vibrant colours and local folk art.
Included in the itinerary - First, visit four archaeological sites: Sacsayhuaman, which dominates the historic centre of the city; Qenqo, a collection of stone constructions, made of tunnels and chambers dug into the hill; then Tambomachay and Puka Pukara, a temple and guard post. Finally, get off the beaten track to reach the small village of Yuncaypata. It's here, at the foot of the mountains that form the foothills of the Andes, that your descent on mountain bike begins. The trail leads quickly to the outskirts of the Kusikallanca Lagoon, with views over Cusco and the valley leading to Puno. For the last part of the descent, choose between the wide trail down to the suburbs of the city or a more challenging route of single tracks and jumps.
The colonial city of Cusco is a beautiful throwback to the Inca civilisation, whose ruins are linked to the beliefs of a tribe who worshipped the sun. Explore some of the must-see sights, including the cathedral, the Plaza De Armas and the 'Qorikancha' or the Temple of the Sun.
Optional - Kayaking on Huaypo Lagoon, with private guide.
Private transfer to airport then flight to Juliaca. Second private transfer to your hotel for a two-night stay in central Puno. This hotel is simple but pristine, with pretty indigenous touches: walls are decorated with 'aguayo', traditional wool fabric from the Altiplano region, as well as figurines and watercolour paintings. In the dining room, enjoy unpretentious Peruvian cuisine and a few international dishes, too.
Included in the itinerary - The floating islands of the Titinos are comprised of totoras (reeds), which are also used to build their boats, used for sailing and fishing on Lake Titicaca. The island of Taquile, about three hours by boat from Puno pier, is of great cultural interest and a magnificent sight. Its inhabitants are farmers, who have developed an original form of communal tourism, sharing their homes, food, customs and traditions with visitors. This community, however, continues to live in harmony with the ancient traditions and laws of their ancestors.
Flight to Lima, then catch your flight home. Overnight flight, arriving the next day.
