With a wonderful combination of beach, culture, city and countryside, Mexico honeymoons will satisfy even the pickiest of travellers. Visit the historic hotspots such as the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza; laze the days away with your one and only on the beaches of the Riviera Maya in Yucatan, or Baja California, and make memories as you dive and snorkel in the colourful underwater world. To get a real taste for the country's culture - both indigenous and modern - head to Oaxaca, Mexico's foremost foodie destinations, and indulge in plenty of delicious food (and tequila). Honeymoons are all about treating yourselves and revelling in your newly wedded bliss and there's time for plenty of that on a honeymoon to Mexico.

Mexico Honeymoons Guide

Practical advice and inspiration to help you prepare for your holiday

What can you expect on Mexico honeymoons that you won't find anywhere else?

From the metropolis of Mexico City to rustic coastal hideaways; Maya ruins, Caribbean beaches and historic properties, there's so much to choose from on a Mexico honeymoon that you're at risk of falling out over the decision-making. The Baja Peninsula, high on Mexico's north-western tip and just south of San Diego and Los Angeles, is renowned for its beautiful landscapes and the accompanying climate, which delivers near-constant sunshine, low humidity and sea breezes that keep the temperature from getting too hot. The other big attraction is the superb marine wildlife found in the Sea of Cortez; legendary diver Jacques Cousteau once described it as the "world's aquarium".

Further south on Mexico's vast Pacific coastline, well-known glitzy resorts such as Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco share space with smaller, more exclusive towns, villages and hotels. Make for this stretch of coast if you enjoy wilder and more rugged scenery - the Pacific Coast is generally more low-key and relaxed than either the Yucatan or the Baja California beach options, and is ideal for surfers and lovers of barefoot eco-chic.

And speaking of the Yucatán, Cancun, with its international airport, may be the jumping-off point for the peninsula but we will whisk you south to what is known as the Riviera Maya, and one of the romantic, exclusive and just plain beautiful beach hotels. There is plenty here for discerning culture vultures, diving fans and lovers of jungle and wildlife with elegant colonial haciendas, historic towns such as Merida and Campeche, and fascinating Mayan sites.
