Travel Advice & Information
Mexico’s past is laced with famous love stories, as lived by some of the nation’s most celebrated individuals, and this sense of romance makes it the perfect place to live out your own love story. Begin in Mexico City with a private tour of the National Palace, Metropolitan Cathedral and Anthropology Museum led by a private guide, which will transport you deep into the city’s fascinating history. Head to the outskirts of the city to see examples of a more romantic mythology, as 40 miles south you’ll find Popocatepetl and Iztaccíhuatl, two of the highest volcanoes in the hemisphere, which are named after two lovers – known as the Mexican Romeo and Juliet – who missed their chance at love during their lifetimes and are now immortalised as mountains, destined to be together for eternity.
‘If music be the food of love’, then visiting the lively market plazas and colourful festivals of Oaxaca and Mérida are perfect ways of immersing yourselves in the local culture. Mexico’s culinary repertoire is just as creative and offers an endless adventure for the senses, bound to ignite your own love affair with the country. Feast on fresh tacos, creamy guacamole and traditional pozole de pollo (chicken stew). Take a couples cookery class in San Miguel de Allende (the heart of Mexico’s ‘breadbasket’) to hone your own cooking skills, before enjoying the fruits of your labour accompanied by local red wine.
Our Mexico couples holidays offer ample opportunities for relaxing as a pair, and once you’ve experienced the city’s kaleidoscope of culture and some epicurean indulgence, head to the peninsula of Punta Mita. The blond beaches of the Mexican Riviera are wonderfully serene and an intimate slice of paradise, while the underwater world of Playa del Carmen, on the Yucatán Peninsula, is worth exploring if one (or both) of you is an avid diver. Our Mexico couples holidays are full of additional personal touches to make your time away as a two even more enchanting; think moonlit dinners, couples spa treatments and sunset sailing drinks (with tequila in hand).
