Travel Advice & Information
You’ve probably heard of Lake Louise. This is a lake so iconic that it’s become a little overcrowded in more recent years. So if you’re looking to get away from it all on your Canada wilderness holiday, we’d recommend its lesser-known neighbour Emerald Lake instead. As the name suggests, the glacial waters are a shade of electric blue-green, surrounded by thick forest and craggy mountains.
No Canada wilderness holiday would be complete without heading on a hike or two, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a seasoned pro – Canada has all kinds of options for intrepid explorers and laid-back ramblers alike. For an easygoing hike with sweeping ocean views, head to Cape Breton's Highlands National Park, one of Canada's most beautiful national parks, and walk the Skyline Trail. The hike can either be done as a four-mile out-and-back hike, or add on a little extra for a five-mile loop, and enjoy views of rolling hills, seaside cliffs, craggy coastline, and the vast ocean.
Road trips are one of the most popular ways to see Canada, but for something a little different on your Canada wilderness holiday, why not explore on horseback? The Yukon, a territory in northwest Canada, is wild, mountainous and sparsely populated. Riding on horseback allows you to get back to nature, exploring historic gold rush routes and picture-perfect lakes, and enjoy this vast wilderness the old-fashioned way.
