Itinerary Highlights

  • Stay in an elegant wine estate in the hilltop hamlet of Chianti in the heart of the Tuscan countryside

  • Explore the medieval city of Siena and the remarkable Uffizi Gallery in Florence with a private guide
The charming medieval village of Chianti is a treasure trove of scenic and cultural delights nestled in the countryside between Florence and Siena. People travel from far and wide to experience the timeless gourmet Italy on display here. Your home for the next week is a beautiful estate that produces its very own 'Chianti Classico’ wine and olive oil, so you’ll never be too far away from culinary treats. A collection of private apartments, some with their own garden, are organised around the main house, along with the private chapel, old wine press and old barn. Each apartment has a different character, but charm and comfort are the hallmarks of their design. You’ll also have your own kitchen where you can work with local ingredients from the market in Piazza Matteotti in Greve di Chiantito to perfect some classic Tuscan dishes. Other facilities include a swimming pool set on a natural promontory overlooking the gentle hills of vineyards, olive groves and evergreen oaks and a barbecue area for hearty dinners under the stars. Life here is lived leisurely and indulgently: enjoy long strolls in the countryside, explore tiny deserted villages and sample the never-ending stream of culinary excellence at the restaurants in town.

Your Itinerary:

Over the next week you’ll have plenty on your agenda to keep you busy in the Tuscan hills. On one of the days you’ll be heading to nearby Siena with a private guide. Here, medieval streets wind their way towards the magical Piazza del Campo, the beating heart of the city. Every summer, this square hosts the ‘Palio di Siena’, during which the city’s 17 districts compete in a frenzied horse race. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the small Renaissance town of Montepulciano, which is famous for its production of one the most highly-rated wines in Tuscany: ‘Vino Nobile’. After exploring the town, settle in for a wine tasting in a beautiful establishment. Last but not least, head to beautiful Florence to tour the Uffizi Gallery, one of the city’s most remarkable museums, with a knowledgeable private guide.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

PRIVATE VISIT TO AN ALABASTER WORKSHOP IN VOLTERRA

Nestled in the heart of a breathtaking volcanic region is the charming medieval hilltop town of Volterra. The surrounding region is known for its naturally-found alabaster, a white material used to create the vast majority of statues in museums. Head to an authentic alabaster workshop in Volterra to learn all about stone cutting and sculpture making.

WITH A FEW MORE DAYS… OVERNIGHT IN FLORENCE

The ever-opulent buildings and bell towers of Florence rise above the banks of the Arno and the sweeping Tuscan hills to create a picture of breathtaking beauty. The city was deeply influenced by the reign of the family of Lorenzo the Magnificent, which is seen in the splendour of the many Renaissance palaces and churches, as well as in the luxurious villas that dot the nearby countryside. Villa Medicea di Careggi, Villa di Castello and Villa di Pratolino-Demidoff are particularly splendid. Florence also dazzles visitors with its elegant antique shops (of which there are over 150), beautifully-curated museums and delicious gastronomy (bistecca alla Fiorentina and pasta with white truffles are the signature dishes). If you have the time, extend your visit here to stay overnight, to really make the most of the city.
