They say it's the trip of a lifetime, so the pressure is really on when it comes to planning your honeymoon. Let us take the strain off your shoulders with a stunning thirteen-day itinerary for one of our best loved just-married combos - the wine and wildlife of South Africa with the wow of Mauritius.

Exploring Cape Town is the first port of call. Head up Table Mountain at sunset, explore the Cape Peninsula and even meet with a township charity to gain an insight into South African life. The Winelands are, of course, an important part of this adventure, so spend a few days in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch trying some of this region’s (and the world’s) most divine wines. Kicking back and relaxing will fill the final stint of this trip, with a stay in an Indian Ocean paradise in Mauritius. Soak up the sun on the beautiful white sand beaches or venture out to sea to go snorkelling or diving, nicely rounding off the perfect honeymoon.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Cape Town.

Firstly, congratulations, secondly, happy honeymoon! After a long journey and all the wedding madness, you'll be glad to meet your transfer driver at arrivals and have someone else take the driving seat for a while. The drive into town from the airport can be less than half an hour so you'll be at your hotel and checked in before you know it. After all the wedding madness and a long journey from the UK we're willing to bet you just want to spend the rest of today taking it very easy. Perhaps start with a late lunch at The Grande Café and Beach on Granger Bay, where you can fill your weary bodies with delicious food and your first sips of South African wine in a beautiful beachfront setting. Afterwards, stretch your legs and walk off the food with a stroll along the beach and a paddle in the sea before getting a much deserved early night.

Today we thought it would be nice for you to get out of the city and explore some of the beautiful scenery around Cape Town. After breakfast, your hire car will be dropped at the hotel ready for you to hit the road headed south towards Cape Peninsula. Make the most of the fact that you have the car and spontaneously detour whenever you fancy. There are a number of cute little seaside towns to pull in and take a photograph along the way though so really you are spoilt for choice. If hunger strikes, Kalk Bay Harbour is a great little place to stop for a bite to eat.

When you do make it to Cape Point, park up and explore. With rugged clifftop views and diverse plant life everywhere you turn you'll feel as if the city is a world away. Stroll along the meandering pathways hand in hand and marvel at the views along the way - if you're lucky you'll even spot a wild zebra. As the light starts to fade, drag yourselves away from the fresh sea air and get back in the car to head for Cape Town, remembering the same applies on the way home - stop whenever hunger calls!

Today we've organised for you to go and see some of the amazing social development projects that are happening in the townships around Cape Town. Set up by uThando charity these projects are really helping to shape the lives of disadvantaged children and communities and range through everything from domestic violence assistance to agriculture and food gardens. On the tour you'll get to meet some of the people uThando is helping and hear a series of uplifting and inspirational stories which will leave you a little more knowledgeable and a lot more grateful. Most importantly, all the money from the cost of the tour goes straight back into funding further projects. As late afternoon settles in, grab a taxi to the base of Table Mountain's cable car. Timing your visit just right will mean you'll be at the summit as the sun begins to set and the city light switch on - how very romantic!

This morning marks your last day in Cape Town so say goodbye to the coast and after a last city style brunch hit the road. Your drive will take around an hour and a half and you'll be heading east towards the rural Winelands area. Enjoy the views along the way and once you arrive, spend the afternoon relaxing at the hotel and enjoying the lush views. For dinner, we recommend you try Babel restaurant at Babylonstoren, a charming farm and vineyard near Paarl. Housed in an old cow shed this progressive restaurant has a farm to fork philosophy which means everything on the menu is seasonal, fresh and utterly delicious. We particularly like the 'Red, Yellow or Green' salad options for their always surprising, always flavourful ingredients in your chosen colour.

You've got a fun packed day of wine and local produce tasting ahead, so enjoy a hearty breakfast and meet your guide at the front of your hotel. Since it'll be just the two of you on the tour today you can tailor it to your exact tastes and preferences - just don't go having your first married argument about whether the fizz or the food was the highlight. Talking of fizz, we suggest you start your tour in Franschhoek at La Motte, where the Méthode Cap Classique is absolutely fantastic and gives you chance to cheers to a great day to come - any excuse eh! Your guide will then be able to fit in another winery or two before lunch, which we suggest you take at Delaire Graff near Stellenbosch. This winery is truly world class thanks to its stunning location on the crest of the panoramic Helshoogte Mountain Pass, excellent wines and especially delicious food. Sit and sip on a bottle of wine as you admire the picture perfect views and await your lunch - time for another cheer?

Post leisurely lunch at Delaire Graff there is the opportunity to find a dessert with a cheese or chocolate tasting at another nearby winery or two. Then, with that winning combination, it's probably just about time to head back to the hotel and rest your heads before tomorrow's flight.

Sadly your final day in South Africa has arrived but fortunately, it's far from the last of the honeymoon. Make the hour long drive back to Cape Town airport to drop the car off and check in for your flight to Mauritius. The flight time from there is just over five hours, and the transfer on the other side only an hour and fifteen minutes, so you'll arrive at your Indian Ocean paradise in time for dinner.

Spend the next five days doing little but relaxing and soaking up some sun on the beautiful soft white sand of Mauritian beaches, with Le Morne Mountain as a dramatic backdrop. We think Mauritius is the perfect romantic retreat for you to spend some quality time together before you have to head home. First and foremost, be sure to sample as much of the eclectic and flavourful Mauritian cuisine as possible. Mauritian food is a real melting pot of influences and tastes; you'll find everything from Indian to French and African to Chinese. So whether you go out exploring and try a hearty bowl of 'Bol Renversé' - a tasty rice dish topped with chicken, vegetables and a fried egg, plus a side of fiery chilli - or dine on the beach by starlight, you'll certainly be spoilt for choice.

If the endless beach and dinner days are leaving you feeling a little restless, then there is plenty in the way of activity to be had in Mauritius. A number of eighteen hole golf courses will have golfers thrilled, and the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens are a nature lovers paradise thanks to their unusual and colourful displays of flora and fauna - the giant lily pads are particularly lovely. If you're looking for a bucket list experience to try together, how about hiking to the top of Le Morne and overlooking the azure blue waters and 'underwater waterfall' optical illusion, where sand drops of an undersea ledge like a waterfall. If being underwater yourself is more your thing, we can arrange snorkelling or diving excursions.

Then again, you might just want to spend a day at one of the many luxurious spas.

It might have felt like this day would never come when you landed in South Africa but sadly, it has, and it's home time. Your transfer driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the airport in plenty of time for check-in before you board your direct flight back to the UK. At least you've got all those wedding photos to look at when you get there!
