Itinerary Highlights

  • From one bank of the Vltava to the other, feel the pulse of a city that effortlessly blends heritage and hedonism
  • Hang up your hat in a charming Renaissance hotel in the heart of Malá Strana
  • See Prague through the lens of the local as you enjoy a tailor-made walking tour of the old town
Journey to Prague and experience the best of both worlds – heritage and hedonism – in one quick city break. Known for its free-spirited lifestyle, John Lennon legacy and excellent craft beer, the Czech capital sure knows how to have a good time. But beneath its fun-loving facade lies an ancient city bursting with wonderful art, architecture, history and heritage.

A direct two-hour flight from the UK and a speedy private transfer lands you in the heart of Mala Strana, a historic neighbourhood filled with colourful townhouses, boutique stores and craft breweries. You’ll soon discover that Prague is wonderfully walkable, from the historic Old Town to the lively districts of Holešovice and Vinohrady, where local life is in full swing.

On every street corner and every square, the city showcases a variety of architectural styles, from Art Nouveau and Cubism to Socialist Realism and Brutalism. Then there are the microbreweries, the contemporary art museums, the trendy restaurants and the festivals, all of which serve as a reminder that Prague is the beating heart of today’s Czech Republic. It’s easy to let go and get in the groove of the locals… sail down the Vltava, stroll through the bustling stalls of the St. Gallen market, flick through a book in a literary cafe, let yourself be enchanted in an opera house, tuck into local pastries, sip a frothy beer in an old palace, spend an evening in a jazz bar or dive into the rock world of an underground bar. Prague is truly your oyster.

At some point during your trip, you’ll have the opportunity to head out for a private walking tour around the city which winds through the Old Town, the Baroque district of Malá Strana (between the Vltava River and the castle) and the romantic Kampa Island. Once the essentials are ticked off, make the most of your time with your guide to see some spots that only the locals know about.

Your Hotel:

Your home away from home for this long weekend in Prague is nestled inside a stunning Renaissance property in the heart of Malá Strana, just below the castle. Everything here reflects the timeless splendour of yesteryear: period furnishings, old paintings and Persian rugs. The feeling is cosy and characterful, making it the perfect cocoon to retreat to after a busy day of sightseeing.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

EVENING AT THE OPERA OR A CLASSICAL CONCERT

The history of Prague’s opera houses is marked by an age-old rivalry between the Czechs and the Germans for cultural supremacy in the city. For an unforgettable evening that’s deeply rooted in the spirit of Prague, choose from one of the three opera houses in the capital, as well as other iconic sites such as the castle, St. George's Basilica, the Spanish Synagogue and the legendary Café Mozart.

CZECH BEER TASTING

In the Czech Republic, beer is sometimes affectionately nicknamed tekutý chléb, directly translating to ‘liquid bread’, and for good reason: each citizen consumes nearly 170 litres of it every year. You’re truly in the heart of a beer kingdom, so make the most of it with a tasting session. Head to the former residence of the King of Bohemia to savour a dozen varieties of national beers. From the Pilsner’s lightness to the Porter’s robustness, appreciate the appearance, taste and body of each beer.

STRAHOV MONASTERY AND THE SANCTUARY OF OUR LADY OF LORETO

Cobblestone streets, buildings frozen in time, panoramic views of the city... Hradcany, the home of the majestic castle, is a great spot for a guided walking tour. Begin in the Strahov Monastery which is home to an extraordinary library full of medieval manuscripts, old maps and Gothic, Baroque and Rococo paintings. You can also get a behind-the-scenes experience as your guide opens the doors to spaces usually closed to the general public. Continue to the sanctuary of Our Lady of Loreto, which has a replica of the ‘Santa Casa’ (the house where the Virgin Mary lived in Nazareth) and a Baroque church surrounded by a cloister and several chapels. Round off your walk with a stroll through the maze of medieval streets that make up Stare Mesto, the Old Town.
