Calling all fishing enthusiasts, don your best bucket hats for this 13-day escape into the heart of the Alaskan wilderness. The clue’s in the name – King Salmon is famous for its abundance of these oily fish and is home to the largest run of salmon in the world. Perched in Bristol Bay, you’ll soak in the sprawling vistas of winding streams and rivers, having travelled through Seattle and Anchorage to get there.

Your journey begins in Seattle, where a trip to the top of the Space Needle rewards you with 360-degree views of the city. Next up is Anchorage, Alaska’s biggest city and your first taste of what this nature-obsessed state has to offer. Finally, head southwest and land in King Salmon, where a small aircraft will whisk you away to your remote lodge. Here, dive into exhilarating days of fly-fishing beneath the Alaskan summer sun.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Get ready to experience some wonderful wilderness because today, your adventure to Alaska begins. Commence the first leg of your journey by boarding your ten-hour flight to Seattle, the soulful capital of Washington State. The colourful cityscape will fill the plane windows around midday, giving you an afternoon to explore. So transfer to your hotel, located a stone’s throw from the waterfront, freshen up and dive into Seattle. Any stay in the city should include a visit to Pike Place Market, founded in 1907, where visitors can get a flavour (quite literally) of what makes the city tick at the gourmet food stalls.

For both first-time and returning visitors to Seattle, a trip to the top of the iconic Space Needle is a must. Soaring an impressive 650ft into the sky, the slim tower was once the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. We’ve bagged you tickets to the observation deck, where 360-degree city views can be awed at from a knee-wobbling 520ft above the ground. Snap some killer pictures before returning to solid ground, where your local Concierge can recommend the best restaurants to taste quintessential Seattle dishes like oysters, chicken teriyaki or short rib pho.

When evening rolls around, we recommend taking to the waves and hopping aboard a boat cruise on Elliott Bay to admire Seattle’s night-time skyline. See famous sites like the Seattle Great Wheel, an illuminated Ferris wheel, and the Columbia Centre, the city’s tallest building (a whopping 328ft taller than the Space Needle).

Today’s the day you fly to Alaska, so wake up and fuel your bellies with coffee and pastries from one of Seattle’s many breakfast spots. Head to the airport and board your four-hour morning flight to Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. After landing, wind your watches back an hour and transfer to your hotel, a wilderness lodge on Lake Hood's shores. After settling in, head to the lake with a picnic in tow – as the largest and busiest seaplane base in the world, there’s no place better to sit and watch planes taking off and landing on the water.

As the largest city in the biggest state in the country (seriously), Anchorage offers a range of larger-than-life adventures. Tackle a section of Moose Loop, a 32-mile-long route that knits together all of the city’s favourite trails, forming the shape of a moose head. Walk, run or cycle for as long as you please to sample the scenic sights – and to potentially spot a moose. Afterwards, we recommend hopping on a trolley tour to journey through Anchorage’s past, culture and surrounding beauty alongside the stories of an Alaskan narrator.

You’re in Alaska, so it's only right that your dinner is sourced from the surrounding seas, and your local Concierge will be happy to book you into one of the city’s finest restaurants. With menus boasting the likes of king crab, halibut and wild salmon, tonight serves as a tempting taster of what’s to come.

Pack your bags and set your sights on the airport because today, you’re flying to King Salmon, almost 300 miles southwest of Anchorage. A speedy flight will take you over stunning Alaskan scenery, landing in the fly-fishing paradise just one hour after taking off. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by one of the lodge pilots, board a small propeller plane and fly out to your remote lodge in time for dinner and cocktails. Situated on a high bank overlooking the Kvichak River, an arm of Bristol Bay, the lodge is surrounded by miles of crystal-clear rivers, all teeming with wild rainbow trout and huge chinook salmon. Settle into bed and get some rest, ready for the next six days of fly-fishing fun.

During your time at the lodge, immerse yourself in exhilarating full-day fishing escapades. Each day is meticulously tailored to the ever-changing fishing conditions, weather patterns and your very own preferences – there's no such thing as a ‘typical’ day here. Mornings kick off with a tempting breakfast, so get ready to be awakened to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. After fuelling up, embark on an epic day of fishing, with lunch expertly prepared and enjoyed within the breathtaking scenery of the riverside. Depending on the time of year, you might even indulge in a gourmet shore lunch featuring the day's fresh catch.

At the end of each action-packed day, you’ll return to the lodge just in time for dinner and unwind with appetizers in the cosy guest house. Dinner is served up next, where plans for the following day's adventures begin to take shape...

Departure today is a bittersweet affair, marked by a hearty breakfast before bidding farewell to the lodge. Hop on a scenic flight back to King Salmon, before boarding the day’s second flight to Anchorage. Finally, begin the journey back to Seattle, where your journey began. Here, you’ll catch the nine-and-a-half-hour flight to London, giving you plenty of time to reminisce over the unforgettable fishing experiences and fond new Alaskan memories.
