Today is the day you embark on your Big Short Break. It's best to take an early flight, so you can squeeze as much into your precious holiday as possible. Hop on your two-hour (ish) flight and arrive by lunchtime, before hopping on the Arlanda Express to your hotel. Stop for a bite to eat in town before your expert guide meets you for an afternoon's private tour of the city. This is your chance to explore the city ‘like a local’, seeing everything from cosy coffee shops (the Swedes love a fika - a coffee break, ideally with cake or something sweet) to museums and cultural gems, focusing on what you're interested in and want to explore during your time in Stockholm. Your tour will end just in time for dinner, so make sure you ask your guide for the best spot for meatballs and gravadlax.
This morning you will meet your guide and head out on a cycling tour around Djurgården, a tranquil island oasis in the middle of Stockholm. It is brimming with historical buildings and monuments, including the world-famous Vasa Museum, home to all things maritime; the ABBA museum for the singalong enthusiasts; and Fotografiska, one of the world’s largest meeting places for contemporary photography. Let your guide know if you'd like to go for a snoop around. When legs are weary, settle down in a cosy café while our Concierge finds somewhere tantalisingly tasty for you to enjoy dinner.
This afternoon, you will take the train from Stockholm to Gothenburg. First, catch the Arlanda Express to the station where you will hop aboard the three-hour train journey across Sweden to Gothenburg. The train will take you through the wildest parts of the south of the country as you cross from east to west, before you arrive in the centre of Gothenburg, where one of our team on the ground will be waiting to privately transfer you to your hotel.
Today is all about exploring at your own pace. Grab your Gothenburg passes (which give you unlimited access to the city’s buses, trams and ferries as well as entry to museums and major attractions) and head out to explore everything this pretty city has to offer. Take a ferry around the archipelago; walk some of the Gotaleden trail to Aligsas, home of fika; or explore Gunnebo House and tuck into an outdoor lunch in its gardens. Spend the day enjoying your exploratory freedom, or just ask our Concierge if you’d like us to organise anything for you. Make the most of your final evening in Gothenburg before your flight home tomorrow.
Hasselblad - one of the finest camera makers in the world - hails from Gothenburg and the company created the impeccable Hasselblad Foundation at the Goteborg Museum of Art. Before your afternoon flight back to the UK, you will meet an expert photographer guide for a private tour of the museum’s various photography exhibitions which are inspired by all aspects of Nordic life. After lunch, you will be privately transferred to the airport, in time for your two-hour or so flight back to the UK.
