Winter Break in Sweden
Stockholm & Secret Lapland

Sweden - Stockholm - Swedish Lapland

Starting from between £3,125 to £4,990 per person for 6 days depending on the time of year, type of accomodation and activities

Itinerary Highlights

  • Get a taste of Lapland and embrace the Arctic lifestyle

  • Whiz through the vast snowy landscape in a sleigh before settling down in a steamy sauna or by a log fire

  • Meet with a local, enjoy new cuisine and try out an exceptional spa in Stockholm

  • Enjoy a jazz concert, try out snowshoeing and hopefully catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights
During Lapland winters, the days may be short, but there’s still plenty of time to pack in the activities, and come evening, the sky will hopefully be draped in the luminescent green of the aurora borealis - the Northern Lights. Your Nordic adventure begins in Sweden’s capital, Stockholm, with tours of historic buildings, ocean views and Swedish gastronomy. Wander through the famed Gamla Stan while exploring Stockholm like a local, with a local. Then head north to Lapland for the second half of your itinerary, which includes a snowmobile safari and dog sledding in the frosty wilderness. At your lodge in Lapland, there's nothing more relaxing than a visit to the Swedish sauna followed by a traditional massage, to loosen muscles after a day spent in the cold of the polar winter. You'll be ready to watch for the Northern Lights in the evenings after a selection of delicious traditional dinners.

Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Today you’ll head to the airport for your two-and-a-half-hour international flight to Stockholm. On arrival, hop aboard the Arlanda Express from the airport to your hotel for a two-night stay. Museums dedicated to modern art, architecture, boats and ABBA are all within walking distance. Our Concierge will reserve a table for you in one of the best restaurants in the city before you head back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep for another day of exploring.

Today you’ll be exploring Stockholm with a local guide, who knows the Swedish capital inside and out, so you can explore all of the city’s secrets and hidden gems. Wander through the winding lanes or hop on a ferry to the next island, all the while learning about the city’s riches. Take in the historic Gamla Stan with its colourful houses and narrow streets, the artistic Södermalm District and Kungsholmen Island, home to the Nobel Prize ceremony. Enjoy an evening spent at Fasching, a jazz institution in Stockholm and a true icon since the 1970s, which still continues to put on breath-taking shows.

Today you will hop on the Arlanda Express to the airport, before a one-hour-and-twenty-minute flight to Lulea in the north of the country. On arrival, you’ll transfer to your accommodation nestled in the heart of the Lapland Forest. Spend the next three nights here in an old wooden chalet that has been transformed into the cosiest cabin, with a fireplace and large glass walls so you don't miss out on any of spectacular scenery outside. Get yourselves settled before spending the evening in the steamy hot tub on the terrace before tucking into a beautifully prepared dinner.

Spend the next three days in the fresh air (some of the cleanest in Europe), while losing track of time and enjoying the wintry wonderland. You'll be transferred around half an hour to the husky kennels where you will meet the huskies and get them harnessed up before receiving instructions on how to mush your dog team. Take it in turns to drive the dogs and sit on the sled, taking in the pristine wilderness filled with frozen forests and lakes as well as discovering the true silence (bar the huskies) of the Swedish countryside. The next day, head out on a snowmobile tour to explore the winter landscape as you cross frozen lakes and pass through snowy forests. You may see reindeer and other local wildlife such as moose, and your guide will tell you all about life in the frozen north. You will need a driving licence in order to drive the snowmobiles and you can take it in turns to drive and be a passenger. When fingers feel frosty and toes have gone cold, enjoy a deliciously warming lunch. For another adrenaline kick, you might fancy heading out as darkness falls for a snowshoe adventure expedition in search of the Northern Lights.

Today, you will be transferred back to Lulea airport in plenty of time for your flight to Stockholm, before hopping aboard your two-and-a-half hour flight home.

Suggestions

Everything in this itinerary is entirely customisable, down to the smallest details. Here are some more suggestions of what could be included

Stockholm with a private guide

The tour begins with the old town of Gamla Stan. A charming medieval city founded in the 13th century, Gamla Stan is home to a beautiful network of cobblestone alleyways, pastel and ochre buildings and pretty squares. Then you reach the Sodermalm peninsula, a small green corner of Stockholm that has become one of the city's trendy neighbourhoods, with its designer shops and alternative galleries but also its buzzing nightlife. To wrap up this discovery tour, visit the Vasa Museum, which houses a beautifully preserved 17th-century warship.

Optional - with a private guide

Snowshoe hike to see the Northern Lights

Deep in the night, the small convoy tramps through the snowy forest bathed in moonlight, in search of the Northern Lights. In the heart of nature, listen attentively to the sounds of the polar night. Stare up at the starry sky and with a bit of luck you will see it moving and streaked with colour - the coveted Aurora Borealis. Along the way, the guide tells legendary stories and describes the science behind this spectacular phenomenon.

Optional - Late-night outing
