One of our all-time favourite destinations for diving holidays in Europe is the Azores. A small chain of remote volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean, the Azores act as a pitstop for all manner of migrating marine animals as well as being home to sperm whales, dolphins and sharks year-round. Away from the water, we can arrange myriad activities - including hiking, rock climbing and canyoning trips - and recommend the best hotel hideaways to unwind in afterwards.

If you're willing to brave the cold, there are some unforgettable underwater experiences in the north, from diving (or snorkelling) between two continental plates in Iceland, to swimming with orcas and humpback whales in a remote fjord in Norway. Alternatively, make a beeline for the warmer waters of Sardinia, which offer excellent visibility and aquarium-like conditions, or head to Gozo, a great spot for families with its calm waters and fascinating wrecks.
