Honeymoon Bali holidays

This picture perfect, pocket-sized island feels like it was made for honeymoons. Bali honeymoons offer a stylish array of boutique beach boltholes, private villas and quaint eco-resorts as well as myriad adrenaline-fuelled adventures that don’t require straying too far from the sun lounger. Castaway shores and coral reefs abound along its coastline while its centre packs a punch with verdant rice paddies, lush jungle and volcanic calderas. Crisscross up mountains (Mount Batur at sunrise is a must), along valleys (we recommend by bike) and along bustling market streets (hands free so you can indulge in their street food scene). Gorge on nasi goreng in waterfront shacks and treat your new marriage to an underwater diving adventure. Swim alongside turtles, reef sharks and schooling jacks and, if you’re lucky, catch sightings of the elusive mola mola. By night, honeymoons in Bali are reserved strictly for romance. Watch the sun sink behind the Indian Ocean on private beachfront dinners or head out on luxury sunset yacht cruises to surrounded yourself in the sanguine-shaded sea. Pretty perfect, right?

Practical advice and inspiration to help you prepare for your holiday

This picture perfect pocket sized island offers beautiful, boutique and luxurious beach hotels by the bucket load, as well as the chance to indulge in adventurous, enriching and exciting activities without straying too far from the sun lounger.

Southern Bali lays claim to most of the island's five-star hotels, ranging from spacious suites just steps from the beach, to private clifftop pool villas with endless Indian Ocean views - and all with an utterly luxurious spa, naturally. The South coast also harbours the majority of the surf scene in Bali, with waves for beginners and experts alike, an endless array of independent boutiques, health food cafes and happening beach bars where you can soak up the sunset with a cool cosmopolitan.

For the culture-hit, head to Ubud - a town in the heart of stunning rice paddy and river valley landscapes, and encircled by traditional villages which are home to some of Bali's most talented artisans and craftsmen. Explore villages by bicycle, try your hand at Balinese cookery or have your recent nuptials blessed by a Balinese priest.

Northern Bali is the home of scuba and spa, with a sunken WWII shipwreck and one of our favourite (adults only) spa resorts within a half an hour of each other. Head here to get away from the crowds, and enjoy a touch of star-gazing from your very own floating platform, surrounded by candles and lanterns.

And the best of the rest? Summit volcanoes in time for sunrise in the East, trek to tumbling waterfalls and kayak the 'great lakes' near to Munduk, or find your inner zen with private yoga lessons.
