Yangon holidays

Yangon is Myanmar's largest city, fast-developing and seemingly torn between its new high-rise builds and sprawling market stalls. The main draw is its faded colonial charm and of course the impressive gilded Shwedagon Pagoda. Yangon is often gridlocked with traffic and so is best explored on foot at a slower pace, giving you a chance to admire the old buildings and imagine how they would've been in their heyday. Be sure to gawp at Shwedgon Pagoda and the once majestic colonial buildings of central Yangon, before jumping on the city's circle train to explore the outskirts of the city. The station is a time warp in itself and the train is rickety and rather slow, but it's all part of the charm as you navigate this journey alongside fruit vendors, monks and daily commuters. Hop off at the nearby township and wonder the fresh market stalls, criss-crossing with child monks collecting alms from the vendors.
