The British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean are a group of about 40 islands set to the East of Puerto Rico. Many of the islands are uninhabited, and the sea is peaceful, making this a great place to practice sailing, hopping from deserted island to deserted island discovering your own perfect beaches.

If you're looking for a more challenging ski trip than the usual resort-based holidays, Italy's Alta Via Dolomites ski safari takes in some of country's best descents. In North Eastern Brazil is the National Park of Jericoacoara, a long coastline fringed by huge dunes. As well as a windy shore, there are also lakes of crystal-clear water, ideal for newcomers to wind or kite surfing. One of the most exciting ways to see wild animals in their natural habitat, riding safaris put you at the same speed and level as the animals you're spotting. Dog-sledding in Lapland
