Four Seasons Anguilla
The Four Seasons Anguilla is among the best of the Caribbean luxury hotels, and on one of our favourite islands, too.
The Four Seasons Anguilla spans two wonderful white sand beaches and 35 acres, and the eclectic but always stylish decor takes in everything from Balinese and African art to driftwood sculptures, all suffused with a sense of Miami cool. Accommodation is in rooms, suites, penthouses and villas with private pools so that families can have some privacy and stay well clear of honeymooners.
Coba, the signature restaurant, serves excellent seafood while Aleta and the Bamboo Bar & Grill serve lighter meals and lunches with excellent Caribbean food and flavours to the fore. In the evening, the Bamboo grill becomes a beachside steak house and barbecue venue, with tiki torches and steel drums to set the scene, and local crayfish and lobster on offer. The Sunset Lounge, which specialises in champagnes, rums and Cuban cigars, is set on a headland overlooking the two beaches.
The oceanfront Spa has individual and couple's treatment rooms, salon services and an outdoor swimming pool but treatments are also available in the privacy of the rooms or on the beach. Meditation, cooking, and healthy lifestyle classes are all available, and the latter might be particularly relevant after a gourmet break on Anguilla.
Why We Love It
The Half Shell, a tiny bare-foot bar carved into a cliff just above the beach, serves cappuccinos and lattes for early risers, bento boxes for light lunchers and some potent rum cocktails for sundowners.
Belmond Cap Juluca
Insulated from the outside world, the hotel is a private, self-contained enclave set along two miles of pristine white-sand beaches on the southwest coast of Anguilla, looking out across the sea to the mountains of St Maarten.
Accommodation consists of Moorish-style beachfront villas, each of which houses no more than six guestrooms, surrounded by landscaped tropical gardens. Breakfast is served daily on your private terrace. The two open-air, beachfront restaurants, Pimms and George's, offer two of the best dining experiences in the Caribbean, featuring inventive cuisine by award-winning chefs. Belmond Cap Juluca also offers a comprehensive array of amenities, including a fully equipped fitness centre, a large swimming pool, tennis courts with a full-time resident pro, an aqua-golf driving range, and a range of watersports, including snorkelling, windsurfing, waterskiing, kayaking and sailing. The spa provides a selection of treatments and therapies, or you can enjoy a massage in the confines of your own room. If the bright lights of St Maarten catch your eye, the shops and casinos of Marigot Bay are just a few miles away.
Why We Love It
Private yachts can be chartered to explore the island's bays and hidden beaches, and diving trips arranged.
