Mancora Marina
Mancora Marina is a contemporary boutique hotel in this trendy beach resort in Northern Peru.
The hotel is a three floor property leading down to an infinity pool, with modern white walls and contemporary furnishings. All 12 rooms and suites have ocean views overlooking the private beach, and all the bedrooms are decorated with fine Peruvian cotton and have air conditioning.
There is a three storey bar leading out to an open air lounge and dining area serving international cuisine, cocktails and fine South American wines overlooking the swimming pool and beach. The suites also have their own kitchenettes.
There is wealth of activities on offer, including private in-room massages, surfing lessons, deep sea fishing, seasonal private yacht trips to see whales and dolphins, and riding along the beach.
Why We Love It
The bartender will greet you at check-in with a complimentary cocktail so you can start as you mean to go on.
Arennas
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the now restored Arennas provides quite the chic hangout at the end of Mancora's beach.
The whole property is very open plan with a light and neutral décor. The muted tones and simple, yet sleek, furnishings echo through each of the 22 en suite guest rooms. All of which open out on to cosy terraces overlooking either the ocean or palm fringed gardens.
With trendy hotels on the up, Arennas is no exception to this revolution; guests can spend their days lounging around the swimming pool with house vibes playing in the background and pisco sours on tap.
If you can tear yourself away from your sun lounger, the hotel's restaurant serves an extremely impressive range of Peruvian and international dishes, including fresh lobster (in season) and yummy rice paper rolls. There is also a wine list comparable to the food menu and well worth a sample.
Whether you are a surfing or tanning aficionado, Arennas' prime stretch of beach is perfect for either. Alternatively might we suggest a spot of fishing or diving? Or maybe even a gallop along the shore?
Why We Love It
A sunset champagne cocktail on your own private terrace is the most relaxing way to enjoy your Peruvian getaway.
DCO Suites
So hip it almost needs a replacement, Hotel DCO sits in prime posing position on Las Pocitas beach. Looking more like the dream home of an award-winning architect than a hotel, Hotel DCO is all sleek lines, white walls, billowing linen and comfy daybeds from which to watch the world go by.
There are just seven suites (including one Master Suite) so as you can imagine things get busy in high season, but a stay here will be well worth the pre-planning. All the suites have uninterrupted views of the beach and ocean beyond and feature must have mod cons such as ipod docks and walkie talkies for asking the staff to bring you up another cocktail.
While the beach beckons constantly, there is a small pool to cool off in, and a rooftop spa offering a range of relaxing Asian inspired treatments. The restaurant Gourmet DCO specialises in Peruvian specialities such as super fresh cerviche and there is a small bar serving cocktails.
Why We Love It
The barman mixes a mean version of that Peruvian classic: the pisco, but try the house Mojadita - a mojito spiced up with the addition of jalapeno chilli.
