Our Favourite All-Rounder Destinations

With the extra admin involved with travel these days (what we like to call ‘travmin’), it’s no wonder that there’s a growing trend to opt to explore one destination in depth, rather than packing multiple countries into one holiday. This allows for a deeper and richer experience, in keeping with our Travel Less, Travel Better ethos, meaning you’ll come back feeling well-travelled, even with just a single stamp in your passport. Luckily, some of our favourite destinations offer plenty of variety and changing scenery within their borders, so we’ve picked out some of our top all-rounder destinations, where you can enjoy a city break, a beach holiday and plenty of activities all in one trip.

Circuit of Argentina’s Highlights

With its diverse landscapes that range from fertile plains to colourful cities, Argentina is a fantastic all-rounder destination. Kick off your Argentine adventure with a couple of days spent exploring vibrant Buenos Aires, where you can discover the delights of Argentinian culture in the neighbourhoods of Palermo, La Boca and San Telmo, as well as enjoying a traditional tango show. Then head south to Patagonia to get up close to the vast Perito Moreno Glacier and spot wildlife including guanacos, armadillos, flamingos and pumas that live in Los Glaciares National Park. A little further north, set off on a scenic drive along the shoreline of Lake Nahuel Huapi and enjoy panoramic views of Andean peaks, mountain lakes and of course the city of Bariloche. Next is the heartland of gaucho country - the fertile lowlands of the Pampas, where you can get acquainted with Argentina's famous cowboys and where you’ll be taught to ride or even try your hand at polo. What more could you want from a two-week holiday?

You could spend a year in Japan and still barely scratch the surface of this fascinating destination. Take in some of Japan’s top spots on a two-week adventure, starting with the sensory overload that is Tokyo before a total contrast in scenery in Nikko National Park, a wilderness of undulating hills carpeted in thick, green forests. Next, board the bullet train to the Japanese Alps and stay in a traditional Japanese ryokan inn with tatami flooring, sliding doors and futon-style beds. In Osaka, experience the city through your tastebuds on a tantalising tasting tour of the city's best eateries. Accompanied by a local guide, delve deep into the tangle of hidden alleyways to discover all the local delicacies from fresh okonomiyaki (Japanese savoury pancake) to tasty Takoyaki (savoury ball-shaped cakes) which have featured in the Japan Michelin Guide.
