Arguably the birthplace of safaris, Kenya wildlife holidays need no introduction. The sun-baked plains of this east African gem offer unrivalled opportunities to track the Big Five (elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards and buffalos) and get up close with many more of Africa's most famous animals with the help of expert safari guides. From the plains of Amboseli National Park and the Masai Mara, to the remote mountain forests of Mount Kenya, Kenya wildlife holidays are certain to leave you spellbound. The highlight of any trip to Kenya is the annual Great Migration, an awe-inspiring sight to behold every September and October. Each year, millions of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle migrate from their dry season pastures to Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve. Watch them thunder across the sun-baked plains and be awed by their sheer numbers and determination. If your trip falls outside this wildlife spectacle, fear not; there are plenty of other activities to enjoy. Visit local villages; try your hand at fishing or snorkelling while staying on the exotic Kenyan coast; take a boat ride on Lake Naivasha or Lake Nakuru; or get up close and personal with giraffes at the iconic Giraffe Manor. You may even get a kiss if you’re lucky.

"It was a BRILLIANT holiday, we all loved it. Given all that we did and saw, it felt a lot longer than two weeks – possibly the best family holiday ever. The itinerary was great, with a really nice mix of camps and scenery, so eight days in the bush didn’t feel too much. Connections were slick, short and efficient, ground staff were super helpful. Having the majority of time in conservancies rather than national parks was absolutely right – we needed the variety of walks, night drives, bush meals, etc., or else too much sedentary truck time. Great job by our consultant and all at Original. Thank you."

"James - thank you. We had a truly wonderful and memorable trip. Everything that Original Travel had a hand in was perfect. Our time at Lewa was perfect and Sirikoi is very special. Sarara was also great and we loved the Samburu experience. Kinondo Kwetu is also a special place. I was not expecting the food to be a highlight, but it was a revelation. We will go back to Kenya. We will go back to Sirikoi. We will probably go back to Sarara. We are properly happy punters. James and Team – thank you. "

"Everything was absolutely pitch perfect - it really could not have been improved upon! It was a magical experience. The time spent with various Samburu men & women was incredibly interesting. I really appreciated the fact that all three places were either set up for / run by / contributing to & therefore truly part of the local community - it really showed. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh & wonderful, as were ALL the staff & guides. I cannot wait to go back! Thank you to James & all the team at Original Travel. "

Kenya is a bucket list location for many travellers, and it's easy to see why. A safari here offers one of the world's greatest adventures. It’s a trek into the wild where you will experience the animal kingdom at its most raw and untamed. You'll discover exotic creatures in their primal habitat and feel closer to nature than ever before. Here are some of our top experiences on a Kenya wildlife holiday.

Enjoy a Breakfast in the Bush

Begin your adventure racing through Masai Mara’s seemingly endless plains which flourish with wildlife making for some of the most spectacular safari experiences you’ll ever have. Enjoy a riverside breakfast in the bush as you crack open a bottle of bubble to the sound of hippos honking in the white waters or stop for an afternoon cup of tea under an iconic acacia tree with your guard nearby, keeping an eye out for lounging lions or even a sentinel cheetah.

Experience The Great Migration

The park is most famous for The Great Migration, the largest animal migration in the world and the ultimate Kenya wildlife holiday experience. Huge numbers of wildebeest and zebra migrate from Tanzania to Kenya in search of water and fertile grasslands. You’ll be on the edge of your seat as you watch these animals brave the crocodile-infested waters of the Mara River, only to be preyed upon by predators, including lions who stalk them from their hidden vantage points. Although a brutal natural phenomenon, this is by far one of the most spectacular things you will witness on a safari in Kenya.

Venture into Amboseli National Park

In Amboseli National Park, the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro looms as large elephant herds graze majestically at its base. Hippos lounge along the river beds, journeys of giraffes graze on trees and zebras run freely; you'll have a front-row seat to it all, so sit back, relax and enjoy the silence of the savannah.
