Transport yourself to a completely different kind of winter, one without shivers, sleet and snow, but instead golden sands, warm azure waters and guaranteed sunshine in Kenya. Be it a relaxing getaway to Kenya’s coral reef-fringed coastline or an adrenaline-fueled expedition into the Masai wilderness, there is a way for every traveller to blow away the cobwebs on a Kenya winter sun adventure. In the Mara, December to March sees the arrival of the birthing season, also known as ‘Toto Time’ in Swahili, when the great grassy plains welcome fresh new paws and tiny bumbling bodies into the world. Although Mara safaris at this time of year may be a tad soggy in the afternoon (thanks to the second rainy season) you can have your Toto moment and ‘bless the rains down in Africa’, before the showers stop in time for your evening game drive. For a bit of R&R, make a beeline for the beachside luxury that can be found in Lamu, Diani and Watamu (to name just a few of Kenya’s coastal gems). The coastline is dotted with snug sun loungers in private villas, and hotels that radiate rustic luxury, all shaded by the endless emerald-green of waving palm trees. Don your snorkel and explore the myriad rainbow fish that float just below the surface, or even try your hand at windsurfing or diving. Relax with a cocktail in hand while the warm Indian Ocean breeze mills around you and the blood orange sun turns the white sand a soft shade of purple as it dips below the horizon.

"It was a BRILLIANT holiday, we all loved it. Given all that we did and saw, it felt a lot longer than two weeks – possibly the best family holiday ever. The itinerary was great, with a really nice mix of camps and scenery, so eight days in the bush didn’t feel too much. Connections were slick, short and efficient, ground staff were super helpful. Having the majority of time in conservancies rather than national parks was absolutely right – we needed the variety of walks, night drives, bush meals, etc., or else too much sedentary truck time. Great job by our consultant and all at Original. Thank you."

"James - thank you. We had a truly wonderful and memorable trip. Everything that Original Travel had a hand in was perfect. Our time at Lewa was perfect and Sirikoi is very special. Sarara was also great and we loved the Samburu experience. Kinondo Kwetu is also a special place. I was not expecting the food to be a highlight, but it was a revelation. We will go back to Kenya. We will go back to Sirikoi. We will probably go back to Sarara. We are properly happy punters. James and Team – thank you. "

"Everything was absolutely pitch perfect - it really could not have been improved upon! It was a magical experience. The time spent with various Samburu men & women was incredibly interesting. I really appreciated the fact that all three places were either set up for / run by / contributing to & therefore truly part of the local community - it really showed. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh & wonderful, as were ALL the staff & guides. I cannot wait to go back! Thank you to James & all the team at Original Travel. "
