Itinerary

100% customisable for you

After landing in Egypt’s vibrant capital, Cairo, enjoy a private transfer into the heart of the city and check into your home for the night – a boutique hotel in downtown Cairo. Its elegant design reflects the beauty of 1920s Egypt, and the swimming pool and sundeck are the perfect place to unwind after your flight.

If you’re eager to get stuck into Egypt straight away, we can arrange for you to explore Cairo like a local this evening. Visit the trendiest bars and restaurants (away from the typical tourist spots) and explore neighbourhoods overlooked by guidebooks, all alongside a knowledgeable local guide.

This morning, soak up riverside Nile views (with a hearty breakfast) before setting off for Alexandria. As you travel through the desert, your driver will stop off at sites such as Wadi Natroun, a valley known for its natural salt lakes and historical significance in Coptic Christianity.

After arriving in Alexandria, check into your seafront hotel and freshen up before visiting the Bibliotheca Alexandria. Opened in 2002, it was built as a tribute to the ancient Library of Alexandria, one of the most famous libraries in the world. Its reading room, specialised libraries and exhibitions are testament to its dedication to preserving Egypt’s history.

Alexandria has plenty of impressive sites, and before leaving, you’ll tick off a few more of them: the National Museum of Alexandria, showcasing Egypt’s history through ancient artefacts; the Citadel of Qaitbay, a 15th-century coastal fortress; and the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the largest-known Roman burial site in Egypt.

Wave goodbye to Alexandria as you begin the drive to Marsa Matruh, a beachside paradise. You’ll be spending the night in a hotel perched on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, so check in, dump your bags, sink your toes in the sand and enjoy the sunset.

Settle in for a scenic four-hour drive as you begin the journey to the stunning Siwa Oasis this morning. After crossing the desert from north to south, you’ll arrive at your home for the next three nights – an ecolodge overlooked by the imposing White Mountain (which, according to local legend, is the burial site of Alexandra the Great). Free from light pollution, the night skies are a sparkling spectacle, so tuck into a delicious dinner and enjoy the view.

Siwa Oasis is a desert daydream, and today, you’ll discover a handful of its highlights. Begin at the Mountain of the Dead and marvel over thousands of graves cut into the bedrock, each decorated with paintings in red ochre and cobalt blue. Next, visit the Temple of the Oracle, famously visited by Alexander the Great and dedicated to the god of air, Amun. Finally head to Siwa’s most popular spring – Cleopatra's Bath – famed for its crystal-clear waters and a popular bathing spot for both tourists and locals. After exploring these historical sites, embark on an exhilarating journey across the desert dune aboard a quad bike. You’ll also enjoy the thrill of sandboarding down the slopes before concluding the day with a traditional Bedouin meal under the stars.

Explore the crumbling ruins of Shali Fortress alongside a guide today, a historic fort once home to hundreds of Siwi Berbers. The fortress vividly illustrates desert life, and explanations along the way will help you visualise daily life in the houses, alleys and squares, painting a picture of how people once lived. At the site, local stalls offer succulent dates, olive oil, salt and brines. You can even float in the two nearby lakes, thanks to their high salt concentration.

Today’s journey will take you to El Alamein, a coastal town where your picturesque beachfront hotel awaits. When you’re ready to take a break from sunbathing, there’s a wealth of history in the town to explore, as it was the site of two significant battles during World War II. Key sites related to these events include a memorial, the Alamein War Cemetery and the Al-Alamein Military Museum. It’s your final night in Egypt, so after a busy day, enjoy one last seaside supper under the stars.

The time has come to make your way home, starting with a (seriously scenic) three-hour drive to Cairo. After arriving, board your flight back to the UK and while away the hours reminiscing over your adventure in Egypt.
