Inspiration for your own tailor-made trip
Italy - Amalfi Coast - Capri - Praiano
100% customisable for you
Transfer to Capri by car and seaplane. Stay for three nights close to the small central plaza of Capri City. The large 19th century building has been tastefully decorated in a bespoke Mediterranean style. The terraces overlook the sea. The city view room is comfortable and cosy and decorated in bold colours. There is an ensuite marble bathroom. The restaurant serves delicious food. The seasonal produce has been carefully selected. Guests can also enjoy the spa, with views towards the east, and a splendid indoor/outdoor swimming pool. Additionally, the hotel staff are warm and welcoming.
Included in the itinerary - Boat trip around Capri. Over the years, celebrities of all kinds have escaped to this island. See the spectacular Via Krupp (1900-1902), the work of German steelmaker Friedrich Alfred Krupp (1854-1902). Admire the Casa Malaparte, the real vedette of Jean-Luc Godard's Le Mépris (1963) and discover the Villa Jovis where the Roman emperor Tiberius once lived... Enjoy this enchanting tour of Capri all done by fishing boat.
There are some spectacular geological sites on route. These include the Arco Naturale, (a monumental natural limestone arch), the three Faraglioni di Capri (rock formations jutting out into the sea), and the Grotta Azzurra, with its striking cobalt glow. Wealthy travellers have built some stunning villas here, including the San Michele villa by the Swedish writer Axel Munthe (at Anacapri), and the Lysis-Fersen villa by Jacques d'Adelswärd-Fersen (in Capri). Both are designed in an early 20th-century style. The Malaparte villa in Capri, built by Adalberto Libera, dates back to 1937. The villas all have wonderful views of the sea. The trail walks are heady with the scent of local plants. Try the delicious Capri peaches, cooked with red wine and cinnamon.
Transfer to Sorrento and collect your hire car. A three-night stay in Praiano. Located on a rocky slope, the hotel offers fantastic sea views. The hotel is contemporary with a white palette, and colourful decorative elements, such as blown glass statuettes. The rooms are all designed in the same style: cleans lines and very comfortable. The restaurant is located on the upper terrace, and it's hard to know what to admire most, the Gulf of Salerno or Chef Vincenzo Vanacore's delicious food. The hotel has an outdoor and indoor pool, gym, spa, pilates and yoga lessons.
Head down to La Gavitella, where part of the beach club is exclusively reserved for guests of Casa Angelina. This west-facing beach gets the sun until it sets. The hotel is just ten minutes from Positano, twenty minutes from Amalfi and half an hour from Ravello, so you'll be torn between lounging on your deckchair or heading out to explore on foot. The first village was founded by none other than Neptune himself. The church of Santa Maria Assunta (10th - 18th centuries) has a majolica-covered dome and a 13th century black Byzantine Virgin. The second village, a venerable port on the Tyrrhenian Sea, still retains much of its medieval charm. In the 11th century, Amalfi merchants dominated the Mediterranean. This period of glory and prosperity has left its trace in the narrow streets and squares of the Old Town. In Ravello, the Terrazza dell'Infinito of the Villa Cimbrone always wows visitors. The unspoiled landscapes of Monti Lattari Regional Park are also another great place to visit. In short, the Amalfi Coast truly delivers on its promises, and limoncello is only just one of its charms.
Included in the itinerary - Private hike along the Path of the Gods, a UNESCO - World Heritage Site. On route to Mount Sant'Angelo, (a six to seven hour walk in its entirety), you will see splendid views of the coast from Praiano to Capri. This trail running along the coastline is safe and requires only moderate effort, while still offering incredible views of the towns of Praiano, Montepertuso and Positano. You can hike in the calm of the mountains, surrounded by Mediterranean flora such as green oaks, cistus, heather, rosemary and other aromatic plants.
Optional A day at sea, aboard a traditional gozzo (wooden boat).
Drive to Naples airport and return your hire car. Return flight.
