Itinerary

100% customisable for you

Your musical journey through Austria begins today with a short two-hour flight to Salzburg. Head to the airport, relax in the airport lounge and download some Mozart to get in the mood. A private driver will greet you on arrival and whisk you into the city centre and to your first hotel: an elegant property in a lively upmarket neighbourhood. Spend the rest of today settling into your new environment with a walk or bike ride around the area followed by a delicious meal in one of Salzburg’s excellent eateries. We recommend turning to our carefully curated Dossier of our favourite spots, from rooftop cocktail bars to traditional kellers (cosy cellar restaurants) specialising in schnitzel and goulash.

On today’s agenda: a walking tour with a clued-up local to discover the hidden gems that make Salzburg so special. Your guide, a connoisseur of the city, can suggest the must-sees while also giving you the freedom to be spontaneous. There’s the 16th-century Capuchin convent, a proud UNESCO World Heritage site; Hangar 7, where Dietrich Mateschitz presents his collection of airplanes and cars; and, Getreidegasse 9, the birthplace of Austria’s most legendary musician, the late great Amadeus Mozart.

Round off your first full day in style with a classic combination of dinner and a concert. Settle in for a delicious meal at St. Peter Stiftskeller, a heritage restaurant that claims fame as the oldest eatery in Central Europe. Savour traditional food with a modern twist, while listening to a professional orchestra perform.

Journey three hours by train through the foothills of the Alps to your second Austrian destination: Vienna, the much-loved ‘City of Music’. Disembark at a sleek and stylish train station in the heart of the capital and head to your next hotel. You’ll check in for three nights at a chic hotel on the legendary Mariahilfer Strasse shopping street, and head out to explore Vienna for the rest of the day. A handy transport card will be waiting for you on arrival, which you can use to discover the characterful sites of the city. Ride the trams past centuries-old Baroque and Neoclassical buildings and experience the city that produced so many musical geniuses: Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Mahler… the list goes on and on. When your appetite calls, simply refer back to your destination-specific Dossier to seek out the best bites in the neighbourhood.

Follow in the footsteps of the creatives that curated the capital as you discover the sights and sounds of Vienna with a knowledgeable local guide. Immerse yourself in the golden canvases of Klimt, the curious minds of Freud and Schiele and the legendary symphonies of Mozart. The walking tour is designed to showcase the rich culture that has developed over the centuries through a succession of impressive architectural wonders and cultural institutions. Round off your outing with an orchestral concert in the impressive 15th century church of Annakirche. The chamber orchestra puts on quite the show, performing a mixture of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert.

Rise and shine, it’s your last full day in Austria and we have a busy day in store for you. Gorge on the lively cultural scene of Vienna with a skip-the-line pass for the Leopold Museum. This gallery brings together Art Nouveau, werkstatte (innovative craftsmanship) and Viennese expressionism and features an impressive collection of Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt. Take the time to learn about the magnificent minds behind the art and appreciate the remarkable context in which they were created. As the sun sets and your time draws toward its end, you have one final evening to savour. You could take in an opera at the world famous Staatsoper or simply enjoy a final meal in one of the fine-dining options around the bustling centre.

Sadly, the time has come to pull the curtain down on your cultural Austrian getaway and embark on the journey home. After enjoying one last breakfast in your hotel and a stroll around the neighbourhood, a private driver will collect you and take you back to the airport. Make the most of the nibbles and refreshments in the premium lounge before boarding a speedy two-and-a-half-hour flight back to the UK.
