Then spot the Hollywood sign; wander the Walk of Fame spotting movie star's handprints; go behind the scenes on a Warner Brothers studio tour; and enjoy rides inspired by films such as Harry Potter and Jurassic Park at the Universal Studios Hollywood amusement park (children need to be eight and over). There's also some place called Disneyland Park in Anaheim.

If the children are more active then hit Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier by bike or rollerblades for the premium people watching and fun and games followed by monkeying around in the waves; or pop over to Malibu to walk on wilder beaches and watch pro surfers in action offshore. Alternatively, walk up through the park to Griffith Observatory for great views back across the city and the beach.
