Los Potreros
Los Potreros is a 6,000-acre working estancia located in the Sierras Chicas in the heart of the beautiful Cordoba region of central Argentina.
The estancia has been in the same Anglo-Argentine family for four generations, and all visitors are hosted by members of the family. Accommodation on the farm is simple but very comfortable. All rooms are tastefully furnished and have private bathrooms.
Los Potreros sits at an altitude between 4000 and 4500 feet and generally enjoys a sunny, dry climate but there are warming log fires in the cooler winter evenings. Meals feature European and local dishes, supplemented by the estancia's own organically grown vegetables, fruit and free-range eggs, and accompanied by wines from local vineyards.
As a working cattle ranch and horse breeding farm, there is always plenty going on at Los Potreros. Guests are welcome to watch the gauchos at work, try their hand at lassoing and generally gain a first-hand experience of estancia life and the rural traditions of Argentina. Other activities include watching and playing polo (informal polo is played once a week and is open for all guests to participate; but if you’re staying fewer days and wish to guarantee a polo session, this can be arranged for an additional cost).
The estancia has a riding stable of over 80, with horses to suit all standards of rider. Trekking to viewpoints and swimming in natural rock pools are other possibilities, as are rides in antique cars or traditional horse-drawn carriages.
There is also good birdwatching, with species ranging from vultures and eagles down to brightly coloured humming birds. Those who prefer just to unwind can relax by the pool or in one of the hammocks on the veranda.
Why We Love It
Non-polo players need not panic. For those who prefer their horse-riding without stick and ball, there are wide expanses of beautiful scenery to explore.
