It's no secret that Croatia is one of Europe’s top coastal destinations, and with so many great beaches to choose from, it can be hard to know where to begin. Lucky for you, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best beaches in Croatia to help you out. Read on to find your perfect seaside spot…
1
Njive Beach
Istria, the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea, is one of our favourite areas in Croatia, known for its excellent seafood, fantastic wine and beautiful hilltop villages. For a slice of serenity, head to the pebbled paradise of Njive Beach on Cape Kamenjak. Surrounded by pine trees and located in a secluded bay, the turquoise waters here are perfect for a calm swim.
2
Banje Beach
Only ten minutes from Dubrovnik’s charming old town, Banje Beach is the place to be if you’re staying in Croatia’s famous walled city. Offering phenomenal views of both the old town and Lokrum Island, this beach is not exactly a hidden gem, but as long as you’re happy to contend with the crowds, Banje is definitely worth a visit.
3
Bacvice Beach
As one of Split’s only sandy beaches, Bacvice is a favourite with the town’s locals (who obviously know best). Opened in 1919, this beach is famous for its brilliant bathing and for being the home of picigin, a traditional Croatian ball game played in shallow water on the beach. And there’s no need to worry about crowds here, as Bacvice can hold over 10,000 people on its sandy shores.
4
Kraljicina Beach
Kraljicina, or ‘Queen’s beach’, is Croatia’s longest sandy beach and got its name because it is where the first King and Queen of Croatia supposedly watched a magnificent sunset years ago. On your way down to the beach you’ll quickly discover that this isn’t your average stretch of sand. Wooden footpaths lead you past hundreds of rare and endemic plant species and just a stone’s throw away, you’ll find the largest site of therapeutic mud in Croatia – the perfect place to go for some serious relaxation.
5
Zlatni Rat
Also known as the Golden Horn, Zlatni Rat is more of a spit than a beach. Nevertheless, the glistening water and sea views on both sides place it firmly on our list of the best beaches in Croatia. Views from the shore include pine groves, ancient Roman ruins and Vidova Mountain - the highest peak in the Adriatic Islands. Only one mile away from the charming town of Bol, Zlatni Rat is not one to be missed on your next Croatian beach getaway.
