Easter in Chile sees the first few weeks of April filled with colourful street parades and gatherings focused around food offerings. Stop off in Santiago to sample steaming pots of chicken stew, followed by papas duquesas (fried potato balls) and traditional Chilean tomato salad with sweet onions. In Valparaiso, see the streets transform into a flurry of festivity, with Catholic processions, street performers and ever-present music. Leave time on your trip to explore Chile’s more far-flung regions further south; a far cry from the bustling streets and celebratory atmosphere of the main cities, your only company in Chilean Patagonia will be the Andean condors soaring overhead.
Celebrate Easter in Chile with a visit to the aptly named Easter Island (or Rapa Nui by its native name). The remote speck of land – located 2,300 miles to the east of Chile – is one of the most secluded places on the planet, yet still manages to tempt travellers with its mystical manner. Akin to an outdoor, living museum, with its awe-inspiring archaeological sites and myriad monumental moai statues, Easter Island is about as far off-grid as you can get and a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
