A thin sliver of a country stretching from the driest desert on Earth to glacial icefields, Chile is long, and long on experiences that make a Chile family holiday a superb option for parents with adventurous tweenagers (9-12-year-olds) and teens. Our Latin America experts are on hand to tailor-make the perfect Chile family holiday to your exact specifications and including our exclusive Original Travel additional services like fast-track check-in and security at the airport, and lounge access even if you're flying economy. In Chile itself, you can call on our clued-up local Concierge who can recommend family-friendly restaurants and make any last-minute tweaks to the itinerary.
Our expertise lies in knowing what will appeal in a country with so much to offer for families, but which involves vast distances. A Chile family holiday highlights reel should almost certainly include the following…
Patagonia is wild, barren, beautiful and perfect for adventure seeking families. Impressive in its emptiness the region is home to jagged peaks and pristine rivers, all crying out to be explored. With expert guides, explore Torres del Paine National Park, hiking off the beaten track to waterfalls, glacial lakes and forests.
In the Atacama Desert, head out on foot, by bike or on horseback to explore the region's lunar landscapes, salt flats and geysers. This is a starkly beautiful place that neither you nor your children will ever forget. 'Moonwalk' in the fine sands of towering dunes, see stands of flamingoes and 700-year-old cacti and learn about ancient petroglyphs (rock art). As the Atacama has zero light pollution, this is also prime stargazing territory.
With its glistening glacial lakes reflecting snow-tipped mountains and evergreen forests, the Lake District is undeniably beautiful, but you're here for family-friendly adventures, not the scenery. Try your collective family hands at heli-biking, fishing, white water rafting, paddle boarding and finally riding along amazing trails in the Huerquehue National Park.
Then, for a dose of city-slicking, spend a day in Santiago, climbing the tallest tower in South America for great views of the city, or visit Valparaiso, a coastal city with a fun boho vibe, and somewhere the children can enjoy a cooking class and even a street art tour where they get to create their own graffiti. Oh, and for serious bragging rights, take the children to Easter Island - one of the most remote island's on the planet - to see the mysterious moai stone heads.
