Travel Advice & Information
The natural beauty of Tanzania’s landscapes and national parks is breath-taking, even without the addition of incredible wildlife. However, it’s the combination of the two which make it a superb safari destination, especially for a family holiday. A Tanzania family safari promises some unforgettable experiences; from enjoying panoramic views of never-ending grasslands or the vast caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater, to watching herds of zebra and wildebeest traversing the Serengeti during the annual Great Migration (attracting thousands of leopards, lions and cheetahs to the region). Starting with the Serengeti, your safari can begin the moment you arrive, as your personal guide will point out wildlife during the transfer to your lodge. Safety, privacy and comfort take precedence on our family safari holidays, and the region’s exclusive-use safari lodges deliver on all fronts.
Onto the southern safari circuit, the Selous Game Reserve covers 19,000 square miles – making it four times bigger than the Serengeti – although despite its impressive size, it remains one of the continent’s best-kept secrets. The UNESCO World Heritage site encompasses an array of habitats, such as Miombo woodlands, riverine forests and sprawling grasslands, while animals endemic to the reserve include elephants, rhinos, cheetahs and giraffes. Exchange your 4x4 for a boat on the Rufiji river and drift past malachite kingfishers, African fish eagles and black winged stilts. Our safari experts will work with the local guides to design an itinerary which suits your family routine, ensuring that activities appeal to every age group.
A Tanzania family safari can include more than game drives and wildlife watching (as wonderful as these are), with a visit to the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean added on to the end of your trip. Known colloquially as the Spice Islands, Pemba, Zanzibar and Mafia are heavenly havens consisting of pristine beaches and sky-blue waters. For youngsters, there’s kayaking, swimming and snorkelling around the islands’ vibrant coral reefs, while Mum and Dad can enjoy some well-deserved spa relaxation and time spent lounging by the private pool.
