Travel Advice & Information
They don’t call Santorini the honeymoon island for nothing. If you’re looking for the ultimate Greece romantic holiday, look no further. Those photos you’ve seen on Instagram of blue-and white-buildings sloping down to the sea? It’s called a caldera, a crescent-shaped stretch of coast formed thanks to a volcanic eruption, creating perfect sunset views. The caldera side of the island boasts endless top-notch restaurants, bars and accommodation so you can soak up every ounce of its breath-taking view.
A Greece romantic holiday is the perfect opportunity to go island hopping. Many of Greece’s 227 islands are grouped into tight-knit archipelagos which are easy to travel around by boat. The Cyclades are perhaps the most famous (you’ve probably heard of Santorini and Mykonos) but there are quieter parts of the Cyclades too, like Delos, a completely uninhabited island and the mythical birthplace of the Greek God Apollo. Keen hikers will enjoy the Dodecanese islands, and history buffs should head to the Saronic islands for endless ancient ruins.
The city of Chania in Crete - the largest Greek island - is home to one of our favourite spots for a romantic dinner. Thalassino Ageri, a locally-run restaurant with an unbeatable view, is one of Crete’s best-kept secrets. Tables laid with old-fashioned cloths sit among the rocks on the edge of the sea so you can watch the sun set over the waves. This restaurant really encapsulates the rustic, laid-back style of a Greece romantic holiday.
