Without the constant rumble of a 4x4, the sounds and smells of safari are heightened as you wander through the Tanzanian acacia-filled savannah behind an experienced armed guide. Keep your eyes peeled for the spikey tails of baby warthogs trundling through the golden grass as the smell of red-baked earth and fragrant bush herbs waft by on the breeze. Tanzania boasts a staggering amount of wildlife, both big and small, from a majestic matriarch elephant leading her herd to fresh water, to a hardy dung beetle scurrying to and fro, finding the freshest impala dung. Embarking on one of our Tanzania walking safaris allows wildlife lovers to discover a whole new way of experiencing the African bush.

"We had a wonderful time! Our guide was amazing - he really did make sure we had the best experience and animal sightings. The Tarangire Park was especially brilliant, but we loved them all as they were all so different. We all thoroughly enjoyed the night safari - we saw lots and it was a great experience. The accommodation was great and the welcome we had at each camp was fabulous. We have had a really wonderful holiday. Thank you so much for another great trip. "

"Excellent balancing of days spent on the right locations, matching our expectations in terms of quality and strategic location. Bakari the Concierge was very responsive and helped us organise a last minute day activity in Stone Town. Our safari driver/guides were simply outstanding and made a difference when spotting animals in the national parks. We loved our complimentary honeymoon dinner on the beach organised by you, thanks again!"

"We had the most amazing time in Tanzania, it really was so special, thank you so much for organising such an amazing trip. Jabali ridge was incredibly special. They went above and beyond to look after us and it definitely will remain one of my favourite places I’ve been. I really can’t say better things about the hotel and the staff. The chef was truly incredible and so considerate about all of our requests. Zanzibar was also beautiful, and the staff again were just impeccable. Hotel was stunning and it was all round an amazing week. Thank you so much for organising our sunset dhow, it was such a treat and was a highlight of the trip. Really appreciate all your help and thanks again for the best holiday. "

Take advantage of being so close to nature on a walking safari by discovering the tiniest of creatures in Ruaha National Park in the centre of Tanzania. Watch as multicoloured insects emerge from ultra-thin cocoons attached to twisted tree branches, birds splashed with bright hues flit overhead and rusty-red termite mounds come alive with activity. Tanzania walking safaris are the perfect ways for wannabe safari guides to get more out of their safari experience, whether it be just a single day on foot before clambering back aboard a roaring 4x4 or spending the entire adventure under canvas in fly camps, listening to the sound of foraging elephants nearby as you prepare for another day of wandering through the wilderness.

Tanzania walking safaris are the ultimate Original Travel adventures and are guaranteed to be jam-packed with exhilarating wildlife encounters that make your heart sing. Climb to rocky outcrops that rise above the Serengeti in the north and watch as thousands of wildebeest dance and prance across the plains and through rapid rivers as they embark on the Great Migration. For a more hands-on approach to a walking safari, take part in lion footprint casting for the greatest safari souvenir, seek out a prickly porcupine by tracking a trail of abandoned spines or throw yourself into conservation in Selous Game Reserve, one of the largest protected areas in Africa. For a truly original safari, put on your walking boots for a trek to the Ngorongoro Crater – once a gigantic volcano – where you may glimpse the racing stripes of a dazzle of zebras or hear a clan of hyenas cackling in the distance. Feel safe in the knowledge that you will always be accompanied by an expert armed guard who will keep you out of harm’s way.
