Money
The currency is the Ringgit (MYR). All international credit cards are widely accepted. It is advised to exchange currency on arrival in Malaysia at the airport – outside of the airport, opening hours for currency exchange in the cities can be unpredictable.
Electricity and Plugs
The mains voltage in Malaysia is 220 volts. An adapter is essential, but a transformer is not necessary.
Local Amenities
Banks are open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 15:00 and Saturday from 09:30 to 11:30. Shops are open Monday through Saturday from 09:00 to 18:00. Some museums and shops adhere to a lunch break closure between 12:45 and 14:00 which gets slightly extended on the day of Friday prayers (approximately 12:15 to 14:45).
Media
There are two national television channels (TV1 and TV2) and several other private channels. In general, TV2 broadcasts a news program in English every day at 20:00. Some radio stations are in English, however the signal for this is difficult. The main newspaper in Malaysia is the New Straits Times and is in English.
